Michael Jordan will take a serious look at buying controlling interest in the Charlotte Bobcats, according to two sources knowledgeable of the situation. Jordan has not been available for comment since the Observer reported Friday that majority owner Bob Johnson is looking to sell the team. Jordan has a minority interest in the Bobcats and the former NBA superstar oversees their basketball operation. Jordan has said in the past he'd like to be majority owner. Now that's more than hypothetical, with Johnson hiring sports investment banker Sal Galatioto to find a buyer.

the only good thing that can come from this is if he does buy
the team is that maybe he'd give up the 'day to day' operations &
they can get a REAL GM in there that knows what they are doing

Exactly! However, I wouldn't count on it.

God he was great to watch.

Yeah, as a player. Problem is, he isn't a player anymore and has been a miserable failure as an executive.

Wow, strong words, but obviously misguided or uninformed. The Bobcats had a rather large turnaround this year and barely missed the playoffs. Their future looks much brighter! Maybe the Kwame Brown fiascos are behind Jordan.

BTW, what do Kwame Brown and Roberto Duran have in common?

May 23, 2009  01:24 PM ET

Answer: The both have "Hands of Stone"
Good for a boxer (Duran's nickname), very bad for a bb player.

May 23, 2009  01:28 PM ET

what's new about that?

May 23, 2009  01:40 PM ET

Bob Johnson should not be welcome back to Charlotte ever this debacle.

May 23, 2009  01:53 PM ET

I think he would be a great owner and offer valuable insight as a former player and current NBA executive. He has made millions as a businessman since retiring from the NBA by making intelligent business decisions. However, he would have to think purely as a business person and strip out some of the emotion and love for the game itself.

May 23, 2009  02:02 PM ET

Why doesn't he buy a baseball team instead?

May 23, 2009  02:27 PM ET

if you want to see the east coast version of the clippers, then you want jordan to buy the bobcats.

May 23, 2009  02:28 PM ET

May 23, 2009  02:31 PM ET

i support MJ to the fullest. although, if he buys the team, i feel he should hire a GM to handle the team operations.
