According to multiple sources within the Cavs, franchise majority owner Dan Gilbert has a tentative agreement in place to allow a group of Chinese investors to purchase a significant stake in the Cavaliers Operating Company, the entity that owns the Cavs and operates Quicken Loans Arena. The group is led by JianHua (Kenny) Huang, a Chinese businessman who has become successful by linking American and Chinese companies.

May 24, 2009  09:00 AM ET

Ladies and gentlemen ... your Beijing Cavaliers!!!

May 24, 2009  09:13 AM ET

And this means the Cavs will get Yao. (At least that is what the NY papers would say if this was about the Knicks)

May 24, 2009  09:25 AM ET

Great... now if China doesn't own enough of this country as it is, they will start own our pro sports teams too.

May 24, 2009  09:52 AM ET

Wonderful.

May 24, 2009  10:23 AM ET

Uh-huh; and in 2 years they'll buy Gilbert out completely, and the Cavs will become the 1st foreign owned franchise in the NBA. In the meantime, just be careful about eating those "hotdogs."

May 24, 2009  10:59 AM ET

Chinese owning the Cavs huh.
Hmmm.
Yao will be replaced by big Z I guess!

May 24, 2009  11:55 AM ET

If this happens, Yi Jianlan will be a part of the contract deal and will be playing more minutes than any other player second only to Lebron James next year.

Please China, use your new found wealth to hassle India and leave my great country alone. You have already cost us enough problems.

racism? what are you talking about? go live there and see if you like it. then move back and tell us honestly we should start living like that. enough said. its called freedom of speech.

Wonder if they'll have a Vital Organ Harvesting Souvenir stand.

Will the employees of the Quicken Loans Arena get 18 cents an hour as the Chinese Slave Employee Handbook states?

Hey, don't complain. At least that pesky stray cat situation will be cleared up right away.

Sorry.....

Guess what I'm NOT doing tonight? Definitely not watching, not cheering for, not caring about the Cavs. NOT doing any of this after reading about them seriously considering letting some Chinese businessmen to purchase a stake of ownership in the Cavs organization. No way. Let them invest in their own country. We need to realize the money isn't important but remaining America is, especially with this being Memorial Day weekend. I go out of my way to buy items not made in China. They are communists and even though this particular businessman may say he isn't - HELLO, he is. Do we want our Cavs associated with Communism. We will treat our fans and players the way the communistic country treats most of it's citizens???? We must take a stand and stop the continual flow of Chinese money into this country - we must remain a Democratic Nation - United under God, For Liberty and Justice for all.

Not so sure what racism has to do with freedom of speech. Am I to understand that if you feel that some of the banter here is racist (and I do) you have a preference for living in a one party totalitarian state? I disagree.

All, I understand this might be a bit concerning, but unless you know anything about this ownership group, it is a bit early to be making assumptions. The mere fact that a Chinese citizen is trying to buy stake in the team is virtually meaningless. It has more to do with who this group is and what they are trying to do and that stretches over international lines.
