No, he will not be first on the Rangers' wish list -- "Gee, we wish we had drafted Zach Parise; gee, we wish we hadn't given Scott Gomez, Chris Drury and Wade Redden all that money; gee, we wish we had traded for Billy Guerin instead of Nik Antropov -- but when July 1 rolls around, impending free agent Mike Knuble will emerge as a person of significant interest. And the interest is likely to be mutual.

Antropov played good for them done the stretch and in the playoffs, Guerin was playing with Crosby who made him look better.

NYR will sign him no doubt. He is an OLD $4mil player. They love those.

Knunble only made 2.8 each of the last 2 years. Still, the Rangers like signing old players.

At 35, his better days are behind him.

Agree. Antropov and Avery were the only highlights of the late season of the Rangers.

Your wrong. They like signing those for 7 million a year multi year contracts.

Hes gonna stay with the flyers. hes cheap and would still help them around the net.

As long as Stevens and Mike understand he's no longer a top 6 forward (at least not on the Flyers) and he takes the vet minimum I have no problem with him coming back. Although, with the Rangers sniffing around I can see him getting the same money.

Ok Larry we get it, you don't like Slats! But don't pretend that the Antropov signing wasn't a good one. Billy Guerin over Nikky?...Please! And as far as Parise goes...everone but the Devils is kicking themsleves over that one. BTW, NHL finals aren't even upon us and you're spewing out this nonsense. The Blueshirts still have to worry about signing 8 or 9 free agents, lets not go making assuptions with no cap space...**** Bag!!

May 24, 2009  12:41 PM ET

For the love of GOD Sather don't do it.

May 24, 2009  01:32 PM ET

I hope Knuble doesn't go to the Rangers. Even with his age, he is still a good player and is good for 25 goals a season and one of the top guys to have in front of the other team's net. I'd love to see him stay with the Flyers, but with all the cap issues and the need for a goalie, I doubt he will. Flyers will try to get JVR to come up and take over his role at a cheaper cost. If you're not in orange and black next season Mike, we'll miss you, but for the love of god, do not go to the Rangers.

May 24, 2009  02:53 PM ET

The Flyers need a faceoff guy and that alone will make Knuble expendable.

May 24, 2009  05:02 PM ET

Gee we wish we never hired Glen Sather

May 24, 2009  06:47 PM ET

mike knuble again? why? the rangers whole team r 3rd line players

Good point. Andropov has a lot more years ahead of him that Guerin. One can't look at the Pens success and think the Rangers would be there if Guenin was with the Blueshirts. I would think it has something to do with some guys named Crosby, Malkin and Fleury. ;)

May 25, 2009  01:22 AM ET

He's not old and slow enough for the Rangers, plus he will only ask for about 3.5 million a year and Sather prefers to start the negotiations at 5 million and then work up from there. Bad fit.

No doubt Guerin is being helped by playing with Crosby and Malkin, but I think his experience is helping the Pens as well. Antropov is a UFA so there is no guarantee he'll stay with the Rangers.

Knuble's not old enough for the Rangers...

I actually kind of liked the Antropov signing. He chipped in during the playoffs, but I don't have a problem with him walking either.

hes told old the rangers like young guys
