Iverson's NBA career over?

Will Allen Iverson play in the NBA next season? At this point, the answer appears to be no. Iverson, who turns 34 in June, still has scoring skills, but he demonstrated in Detroit that he's unwilling to alter his ball-dominating role for the good of his team. When asked to come off the bench for the Pistons late in the season, Iverson chose to stop playing and left the team. Add the fact that Denver made enormous improvements after trading Iverson for Chauncey Billups and it's tough to imagine a team that would see Iverson as an asset.

He will be a Knick next year.

Nothing like playing all out for yourself if you can back it up. He cant do that. He cant win a game on his own like Kobe and LeBron can. Time he swallowed his pride and became a team player. But he wont do that, he is too egocentric. He ought to realize that great teams have 2 or 3 or 4 GREAT players and an almost great backup team. Bulls anyone? He might as well go to a train wreck team like the Knicks for some comedy value. New Yorkers must be sick of seeing them be so bad. Knicks will have to bust the bank for LeBron if they want him but i think he wont. Good luck Allen, you are going to need it.

AI's future depends on
1- his back(can he still play?)
2- his ability to accept playing "the right way" like he once did in Philly. It also happened to Kobe the same year, when he accepted being the 2nd option behind Shaq
Should he lack one of those two things, he'll be done.
AND wait, I almost forgot one last thing:
3-practice. But this one goes with playing the right way

Thank goodness. He is talented, but at the same time he is such a waste of air. Chalk his team play up there with T.O.

May 26, 2009  06:25 AM ET

it ain't over but the fat lady is warming up

May 26, 2009  06:37 AM ET

He'll play somewhere if he accepts a smaller paycheck. And the team that signs him will surely regret it.

May 26, 2009  07:00 AM ET

He still represents jersey sales and fans in the seats for teams not in serious contention. I think he played his way off of any playoff team, however. He has value as money maker for a team near the bottom.

May 26, 2009  07:09 AM ET

He had a special situation in Philly with the supporting players. He was also at the top of his game at the time. That was yesterday. Today, he better learn how to fit what is left of his game within a team concept or no team will waste their time.

My how the mighty can fall...

AI will have a job. But not a good one. He'll be a starter for some chump team or a backup at best with any other team.

May 26, 2009  07:38 AM ET

Goes to show how selfish he is.... and why he never won or will never win an NBA title...AI you were and are one heck of a talent...but you are an IDIOT!!!!!

May 26, 2009  07:55 AM ET

He'll play somewhere next season, probably on a non-playoff team.

May 26, 2009  08:02 AM ET

This is why I don't understand all the AI fans out there. AI is a big fan of himself. If the guy didn't learn from what happen this season then he will never learn. There are too many proofs that he will not make a team better. He proved to the world that he is very selfish and that there is only an I in team and that I is coming from his initial AI. AI made the Denver team suck when he was playing for them and he did not make the Pistons any better.

He has to put his ego aside if he really wants a contract. AI is the equivalent of TO. They both put up numbers but they are only concern about themselves. Fans love them and back them up w/ no hesitation.

May 26, 2009  08:03 AM ET

One word: SACRAMENTO. That team is not going anywhere and they need to sell tickets.. AI to the rescue!

May 26, 2009  08:03 AM ET

He'll play in the WNBA, this Allena Iverson

May 26, 2009  08:06 AM ET

Sacramento would be a perfect fit for an aging former superstar with no interest in playing team basketball and they have a ton of money to throw away. However if they suddenly wake up I see AI going the way of Sprewell, Robert Horry (not that he was a bad guy), and countless others that just kind of left the game and we really didn't notice.

May 26, 2009  08:07 AM ET

He still has atleast 2 more years left in the tank.

May 26, 2009  08:19 AM ET

Stick a fork in him he is done the two teams he played for are doing much better without him. He is too much of a diva to deal with. Sorry Iverson I was a fan for years but you are like a chick with 3 kids by 3 different men too much drama. DAMAGED GOODS

May 26, 2009  08:22 AM ET

He's going to try to latch onto a contender to make a run at a ring before his career ends.

May 26, 2009  08:26 AM ET

not an asset... an assh...
