Dodgers owner miffed at Manny

02:56 AM ET 05.26 | If Dodgers owner Frank McCourt had his way, he'd kick Manny Ram'rez to the sidewalk, void his contract, and say, "See ya later." But McCourt doesn't have that luxury, so he has simply asked Ramirez to do some very basic things to make amends for his embarrassing 50-game suspension. He did address the team, so that's one off the checklist. But that's about all he's done. All Ramirez has to do is show remorse, take batting practice, be a presence in the clubhouse, and continue to help out the young hitters. So what is he doing? He's staying away. The Dodgers expected Ramirez to come to Los Angeles after he briefly addressed the team in Miami last week. But Ramirez didn't. It's another act of defiance - a slap in the face to McCourt, who has been more than generous to Ramirez. Don't forget, Ramirez had no other offers of substance before McCourt came in to pay him $25 million this season and tacked on an option year for $20 million. In the offseason, Ramirez worked at Athletes Performance Institute, but he did it at the one in Pensacola, Fla. Nobody could figure out why. All the Dodgers want Ramirez to do is come clean about what he did, be a good teammate, and prove to the management and fans that he's truly sorry. He told the Los Angeles Times sports columnist T.J. Simers, "I'm not ready."

It is best he stay away until he can start contributing to the team on the field again. He is not getting paid as part of this suspension so he has no obligation to be anywhere until its time to play.

The best thing Manny can do for the Dodgers is stay away. If I was McCourt and Torre I wouldn't want Manny rubbing off on the young players on the team.

It's just Manny being Manny. Apparently, McCourt didn't pay attention to Ramirez when he was in Boston.

Roy, it's called responsibility. I guess from your blinders, you can't see that. Enjoy the late season team implosion.
I guess that option year looks worse and worse every day. Steroids and inflated salary aside, the Sox got the best of the Bay-Ramirez trade last year.

Is anyone really surprised by this story?
At least it isn't my team he's doing this to. Nonetheless, it's sporting drama.

This is easily the shortest post ever written by Mr. Coltrinari. I miss the good old days when I could kick back with a sandwich and read one of his excellent posts during my lunch hour.

A month ago a friend from LA said to me "Thank you, thank you, thank you, for giving us Manny!" And I countered with you're welcome to him, he's made for Fantasyland. You'll see sooner or later that he's a two tool player, and we'd much rather have Jason Bay who is a better total player, who appears to respect and love the game. I guess it didn't take long to be "sooner." Enjoy the angst, LA!

Manny is a disgrace to baseball as is A-Roid, but the fans have short memories, and if Manny comes back like A-Roid has, this will all go away and only show that you can screw up, and still be adored, like the stupid Yankee fans are doing to A-Roid...and in the end it is the fans who pay for the mistakes of these spoiled, weak morons. I don't follow MLB and have not since it became a business and not a sport...

Boston fans are smiling at the situation. Before this latest Manny episode we knew it was a fantasy world in L.A. We enjoyed his production in Boston at times, but he only cares about one thing, himself. He's the most selfish player of all time. Manny being Manny means the heck with anyone else but myself. It sure doesn't smell like roses any longer. Manny has insulted Boston sports fans and he's tainted all of baseball.
