Yankee slugger headed to NL?
One major league executive said there's "a pretty good chance" Bobby Abreu will attract interest from a National League team this month, assuming the Yankees are willing to pay a significant portion of the $10 million he's still owed.

The Evil Empire will pick up his entire salary, throw in a pack of Marlboros, and deal him to the Hiroshima Toyo Carp for some moldy sushi and a kosher weiner.

I have no idea which NL team whould be foolish enough to assume any part of Bobby Abrue's contract but if the Yankees can be rid of Mr. Abrue they should be willing to pay up to 70% of his salry due and take any double A prospect.

Expect the Dodgers and Padres to show marginal interest.

The fondest memory I have of Abreu is him smashing an inside fastball at Pac Bell Park (that's what it was called then) as hard as he possibly could. He started his slow, happy little trot, and just as he was halfway to second base stopped dead in his tracks. The ball hit the wind coming off the bay like a wall and it was caught in the deepest portion of triples alley. The look on his face was priceless, kind of a "WHAT? Mommy, that wasn't fair!!" kind of an expression. It's that sort of thing that makes Barry Bonds look even more impressive swatting balls all the way into the bay.

This poor fellow has lost his stroke, and with it, his value.
Send him to us: we need a new batboy.

There are some top quality outfielders coming up on free agency this off season. Why pick up his money unless they get something of real value in return?

Trade him, he was a bust. He's not really an american league player any way.

He is not a bust. He was great last year. If they could trade him for someone decent, I would get rid of him. Thats what they have to start doing anyway.

To be fair he really hasn't been a bust, I was probably a bit too harsh there. I just hate his approach at the plate a lot of times.

Farewell Bobby, it just did not work out.
His bat is now gone along with his ability to work walks. His arm was pretty good but his willingness to get to fly balls is very weak. If you could have only been an "on-base" machine you may have deserved to stay.

I think it's funny that everyone thought this was a good trade for the Yankees and terrible for the Phils. Look at them you now you're all saying the same things we were. The guy is a waste of life and now even the overpaying Yankees don't want him. He might as well go home to Venezuela.

As a Phils guy, I hate that things went so downhill for him. He was our only decent (and a largely underrated) player for a lot of years. Totally pleased that his career bottomed out in NY and not in Philly, but sorry for him that he's flaming out so badly.
