The Celtics are expecting the now surgically repaired Kevin Garnett to be completely ready when training camp for the 2009-10 season begins. An NBA source said Garnett, 33, is expected to be out 6-8 weeks. He is expected to do rehabilitation in Boston first before continuing it in his offseason home in Malibu, Calif.

No more titles for the Celts even with a healthy Garnett.

May 27, 2009  07:48 AM ET

hope he is healthy, he had enough time to heal by then.

I totally agree - unless they trade one of the big three for a young athletic wing man and free up cap space to sign Rondo to a long term contract. He is easily a top five point guard in the leagie.

More importantly they need to get rid of bad luck/inconsistent Marbury. In game 6 against Orlando he got them back in the game and in game 7 what does he give you - 4points and 3 turnovers. I sure don't miss him on the Knicks.

i agree, but they should not trade garnett, may be ray allen, but what is the market for him? whic players could they get? and potential trade scenarios?

I can see the Celtics still being in contention with a healthy roster. Salary cap space will be some trouble, but they are still to be respected. They don't need a trade. Maybe a good draft and some development from the new D league team in Portland Me. Go Celtics!

I disagree. They might be even stronger next year because of the development and maturity of their young players. Rondo, Big Baby, Perkins, House, and Powe has shown that they can do their part and more.

Can't agree with that. Cavs should have been swept already. Boston had no Garnett and STILL took it 7 games against Orlando. Sooo you cant count Boston out so quickly.

May 27, 2009  09:22 AM ET

Just like the 06 heat they were built for that one title.
Difference between the heat and celtics is celtics are one and done recently they have many titles fug them.
The heat will rise to the top again!

agree with you-
not saying they are a 'lock' to win...
but there is no reason to count them out-
no team in the east - when healthy- still has a better big 3
+ they have good complimentary players.

Don't forget - the celts bench was bad this playoff run cause
of their injuries- Davis should have been coming off the bench
and obviously powe got hurt

If Garnett can be back in 6-8 weeks, why didn't he have the surgery in February? He could have been back for the Playoffs.

It sounds like the Celts team Dr's are as incompetant as the
NY Mets team Dr's..........

I think everyone knew they'd be one and done. It was expected. Now they play together for the next year or two and they have to blow up the team and start over.

Either that or the Globe is embellishing the truth somewhat.

I defintely agree

Celtics will be the champs next year, book it.

I see the C's holding on this season with Ray Allen, last year of contract at $ 19.7m, then in summer of 2010 could sign a big FA with Allen's CAP HOLD space

I would HIGHLY doubt the celts would break it up this season
They ALL -players, coaching & management want to try and
'repeat' with a healthy squad

May 27, 2009  12:30 PM ET

Celtics will compete next year. They woulda made the finals this year if not for his injury.

One and done is alot better than none and done....without Shaq....just a thought...

Lets see, Malibu or Boston, hmm, thats not a tough choice is it?
KG will be back good as ever. The big 3 need to play less minutes next year, a few changes on the roll players and they are close.
I'm still surprised he didnt come off the bench for the game 7's. He would have had the crowd all jacked up even if he just got 1 rebound or bothered 1 shot. I'm sure there was in-fighting on wether he should have played or not.
