Hawks leaning toward Huet in Game 5

Nikolai Khabibulin, who started throughout the playoffs until leaving Game 3 with a lower-body injury, did not practice on Tuesday. Coach Joel Quenneville did not rule out that Khabibulin would play Wednesday night, but Cristobal Huet appears to be the goaltender most likely in charge of helping the Hawks avoid elimination in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals.

Either way they lose.

I don't know. It isn't easy for any goaltender they put in there if his teammates are going to act like clowns and give up PP opportunities to the Red Wings.

B bye...

May 27, 2009  09:55 AM ET

2 goaltenders at the same time wouldn't help with the way they played last game.

The blackhawks needs to growup. That is why the WINGS are kicking their butts. Stop throwing elbows and shoot the puck and play hockey.

Too bad for the Hawks. Khabibulin has shown he can be a heck of a goalie in his contract years, and Huet has been a bit of a disappointment for sure. They should be letting Bulin walk this offseason, but I would imagine that tonight's game will go a long way towards helping them make that decision. Sure hope the Wings close them out tonight and let their stars heal up a bit before the next round. Doesn't sound like they'll have Datsyuk or Lidstrom again...

May 27, 2009  10:53 AM ET

Big mistake. Cristobal will get lit up. Khabibulin should play if he can. No hope otherwise.

But there is no real hope anyway. The Hawks have showed spunk but have shot their wad.

Nice # of comments goCanada!.

Huet in goal is means out in 5. The guy is a terrible netminder. But he's got a great agent!

May 27, 2009  11:04 AM ET

Hmmm, why is that beard growing out of the top of my head?

Not good enough. For a few dollars less he could've stayed in DC and been better off.

Puts the hawks in an awful bad spot if Huet sux it up. Maybe have to resign Habby in the summer to another big contract. Woops!

May 27, 2009  12:17 PM ET

Huet sucks, between last offseason signings of Huet and Campbell, I'm not sure which one is worse

They are the youngest team in the league

Huet looks like Luongo last round....BAD!

I agree.

Detroit exposed them, I really don't think it matters much who the put in net tonight. Detroit is on too much of a high right now.

May 27, 2009  02:04 PM ET

without Lidstrom and Datsyuk it won't be as easy as you guys are all making it. Detroit in 6

Habby's gonna have to take a short term contract. The 'hawks system is deep, and they have a few good prospects down there. I'm sure that both Huet and 'bulin both won't be back, one of them will, but not both. I'd prefer 'bulin on a 2 year deal.

Doesn't matter, and I'm a 'hawks fan. Huet blows, (especiallly on short notice (he seems to play better with consistent play)and Detroit is just a better team at this time. No one expected the 'hawks to make it this far at the beginning of the season, and by that reason, this has been a very successful season for them. They're the youngest team in the league, and show much promise. Here's hoping Tallon makes the right moves this summer, and we get a rematch in the Conf finals again. The 'hawks are getting a great education from the best team out there, and this will pay dividends in future seasons.

What happened to Huet? He had 2 of the strongest statistical seasons amongst the goalies the last 2 seasons before this season. He has a Jekyll and Hyde act going on here. Oh well. Stay in the West Huet! The guy owned Boston for the last 2 seasons.

Agreed but, as so many goalies in the past (Carrey, Potvin, even Price etc...) they have a couple of really good years and then their weaknesses are discovered and exploited. The coaching staff on every team has people who look for just that.
A precious few goalies have no obvious weakness (Brodeur, Loungo, Toskala etc...)(last one being a joke!).
I think this is what has happened to Huet. They found his weakness.
