Shaq to New Orleans?

If Tyson Chandler was on the market in February, wouldn't he be on it again now and wouldn't the Suns have an interest given the type of pick-and-roll defenders they want in that role? The Hornets were looking to cut payroll last time but would adding Shaquille O'Neal in his former college state add intrigue? New Orleans may not need it with season ticket renewals reportedly already at 80 percent, a great number considering its market, the recession and the team's first-round exit. Trade talk in general will fire up more around July 1 because of base-year compensation in contracts.

That would be fun, seeing Paul's alleyoops going to Shaq.

The cavs had the chance to trade for the big fella.but didnt pull the trigger..cavs would be in a better situation i believe

May 28, 2009  07:38 AM ET

i heard shaq was going to the dodgers to replace manny

May 28, 2009  08:10 AM ET

Shaq will probably get traded before the trade deadline for some young players and a trade exemption.......

May 28, 2009  08:13 AM ET

ok maybe that didn't make sense..............a 20 million dollar expring contract is always valuable, just look at what denver got for iverson.

May 28, 2009  08:15 AM ET

shaq should sign with the rockets, that way yao can be backed up like dikembe did. Houston has no other big man besides Yao. Yao and Shaq would complement each other nicely.

May 28, 2009  08:19 AM ET

There is a good chance for this to happen. Hornets don't want Chandler and the Suns are saying they need a young and athletic center.

Yeah and shaq being too fat to even jump high enough to catch them and they sail out of bounds. They reported this story a month ago. They must be running out of actual news.

no there isn't-
First of all they'd need probably three players to match shaq's deal
and Phoenix would want more than Chandler & NO's garbage-
it would probably require chandler AND West- which NO would be
DUMB to part with for a rent-a-shaq for a year

it does not have to be West. It could be w/ Posey and some other scrub. Or Peja and some scrub, etc

Shaq who?

May 28, 2009  08:57 AM ET

It's too bad Shaq keeps team hoping. I think it tarnishes his legacy a little bit...

May 28, 2009  08:58 AM ET

hopping i meant.

May 28, 2009  08:58 AM ET

Hoping works too...

May 28, 2009  09:42 AM ET

i'm sick of that mamooth also

Before July 1 : it could be Shaq $20m for Chandler $ 11.4m & Antonio Daniels $ 6.2m or Posey $ 5.6m = $ 17.6m or $ 17.0m : But it would work better after July 1, when the contracts go up for NO : Shaq $ 20m for Chandler $ 12.3m & Daniels $ 6.6m or Posey $ 6.0m = $ 18.9m or $ 18.3m And PHO if it Daniels could throw in Goran Dragic $1,7m / $1,836,000 Starters for PHO : Chandler, Amare, Posey, Richardson, Nash & Draft a backup PG #15

That starting 5 looks pretty terrible. Chandler has injury questions as does Amare. Posey is a nice contributing player, but the only time he's been a great player is when he was offset Wad and Shaq or surrounded by the Boston threeparty. Richardson is alright, not great, and Nash is getting older by the second. I think they could do a lot better if they want to trade the big fella and his big contract..

lol....scrubs?
why would Phoenix take back scrubs and more improtantly
scrubs with LENGTHY contracts ??

Good idea but seems tough to execute, as others have astutely mentioned.
