Former University of Kentucky basketball coach Billy Gillispie is seeking more than $6 million from the UK Athletics Association in a federal lawsuit alleging breach of contract and fraud. The 24-page lawsuit, filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas in Dallas, argues that the athletics department should pay the coach an untold amount in damages and attorney fees in addition to the $6 million Gillispie says he's owed for being fired two years into a seven-year term. Gillispie never agreed to a formal contract, but he did sign a memorandum of understanding with the athletics association.

Wow. No contract. w t f were you thinking?

May 28, 2009  08:31 AM ET

Well I think Kentucky has a good countersuit case for Gillispie fraudulent representation as a recruiter and coach.

Good luck with your new coach Kentucky fans.

Then perhaps they should be preparing the law machine for the bye-bye Johnny C suit/countersuit.

Well he is better than what Billy G. was. He didnt make many friends.

What is odd is that the suit was filed in Dallas. I am curious how that will play out.

Gee, and here I thought Mike Price was stupid for not having his contract cemented at Alabama before his pal ordered "one of everything to go" on the school's credit card. This has got it beat all hollow.

Ha Ha. "one of everything to go". Classic.

How many stories do we hear where a coach has gone months, even years without signing a contract? There was an article recently that the coach at Auburn hasn't signed one yet. It seems like this would be more easy than they make it out to be.

I read on SI that the suit was filed in Dallas because that's where KU and Gillespie negotiated and that's where the offer was made.

KU's new coach is coming over with plenty of questionable laundry.

I would think Billy would definitely want it to stay in Dallas and UK would want it in Lexington.

UK is going to pay alot more in lawsuits, than they will actually be paying their coach's in the next few years. Yikes.

It amazes me that these guys don't sign their multi-million $$$ contracts. I remember when bama went through the Mike Price fiasco, and they managed to saved a heap of dough because that moron forgot to sign his contract also.

I just have this feeling that their egos won't let them just sign a very good contract and that they feel like they have to go through some type of process to eke out every little penny and perk they can get. That's the only thing that makes sense. I mean, come on, aren't they pretty much told what they would get in the initial process? So, what could be the holdup other than what I said after they have already accepted the initial offer?

I think you probably hit the nail on the head there, Joe.
Nice that it sometimes works out in the University's favor!

You screwed up Billy. You are wasting your time. Has he even found a job yet?

Feed the lawyers. You can't get fired for gross malfeasance nowadays.
