NCAA to scrutinize Calipari's latest recruits

John Calipari, who left Memphis for Kentucky in March, was not named in the NCAA allegations and informed Kentucky AD Mitch Barnhardt and the search committee about them before he was hired. The Memphis investigation could have far-reaching consequences at Kentucky. Rest assured, the NCAA will take a much closer look at the Wildcats' three prized recruits - point guard John Wall, forward DeMarcus Cousins and point guard Eric Bledsoe - who are all still trying to qualify academically.

Slim Shady seems to have a few things in common with Kelvin Sampson

May 29, 2009  08:52 AM ET

not only should they scrutinize, they should check and see if they can count to 10.

May 29, 2009  09:09 AM ET

If they follow through it should be fun to follow.

May 29, 2009  09:13 AM ET

Maybe they can get Derrick Rose to give them some pointers on how to pass the SAT.

May 29, 2009  09:31 AM ET

Calipari looks like a sleezy fellow. Just can't trust a man who oils his hair like that.

May 29, 2009  09:40 AM ET

Even in interviews the way he talks and his mannerisms are just shady. And, how hard is it to qualify to play sports in college? Gees guys. Kentucky is going to end up like Indiana. Couldn't happen to a more delusional fan base.

Sounds kinda like the old Barry Switzer academic standard at Oklahoma. No athlete was allowed to receive a letter in any sport unless (s)he could readily identify which letter it was.

Basketball, once my favorite sport, is covered with slime and sleaze at every level. College Bball is a farce, NBA is a walking graffiti wall of tats and ego. Calipari is a symptom, not a cause. He went to Kentucky with a game plan of plausible deniability and UK bought it because they desire plausible deniability. UK is the Auburn of payoff's and money under the table in the SEC. Kentucky's credibility left the building a long time ago. One-year wonders have corrupted the game and created a challenge for coaches that has no solution. Success kills more programs than it helps.

I agree with POST # 1...Scholar Athletes...now that's an oxymoron when applied to the NBA's crooked farm system, NCAA B'ball. You have to be a second-tier prospect now'days to have to go to college first anyway.

The buffet table is set for the forseeable future....recalling EE Cummings..."there is some **** I will not eat."

Step away from the table if you don't like it.

It is what it is.

Well said. The delusionals got what they wanted....now they have to deal with the consequences.

Recruiting streetballers with questionable academic desire is not the best way to build a championship program - one that stands the test of time. Calipari's teams should be fun to watch but KU could become the one-and-done capital of college sports. It's hard to build momentum, much less championship character, when you have a new lineup every year. It's also hard to win a title that way.

These kids need to just go over to Europe and play until they are ready for the NBA.

May 29, 2009  10:45 AM ET

Still trying to qualify academically??? It is June, of their freakin SENIOR YEAR. What the hell are these parents and counselors doing??? No wonder coach's are slimy, the people who are supposed to care for these kids, are 10 times worse.

May 29, 2009  11:05 AM ET

YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES.

My days keep getting better. I love it. Go HEELS.

May 29, 2009  11:31 AM ET

Whew....And we wanted to keep him so bad.
Trust me, his legacy will be smoking corpses, and ruined careers.
Mitch Barnhart, get that resume ready.

Ha!! Typical UK. Can't win without cheating. Thought they left that behind when Pitino had to save them, but I guess old habits die hard. LOL!!! And I love how the UK fans are in denial - also very typical. This couldn't reflect on Calipari, right? Go ask UMass. Ha.

Derrick Rose thought that SAT stood for San Antonio Airport!

If the kid can't spell which college they want to attend.... BIG PROBLEM!
Rose signed my shirt.. "MEMFISS BOUND!" back in the day.
