Blazers GM looking to deal

Of course, Blazers GM Kevin Pritchard will make a trade. We're talking about the general manager who once pulled off an NBA-record six deals on a single day. And we're looking at a franchise that knows now more than ever that it needs to dramatically improve, quickly grow or decide to make a deal, and raise the talent level in three positions if it wants to play deeper in the playoffs. So we've arrived at another Blazers moment in which the off-season breakfast burrito should be -- and is -- taking a backseat to the basketball. Could Pritchard be after what he's coveted for years --- New Orleans' point guard Chris Paul? Or Memphis' Michael Conley? Or is Pritchard simply trying to work his way into the top five of the draft again?

Chris Paul being traded would be a firing offense, why would they throw his name in their....New Orleans are ZERO without Chris Paul.

Blazers don't need to do much apart from keep Developing as a unit...but at the same time as much as everyone talks about their potential, they don't wanna miss the boat, if their is an obvious deal they should make it.

Why the hell is Portland still after Conley? Other than being a teammate of Oden in high school and college he isn't good. The better fit would be a guy like Kirk Hinrich.

Conley is a terrible decision. Blake is a good point guard, not a start just a pure point guard.

Antwain,
If it happens, adding Conley to the guard mix in portland may prove to be a stroke of genius He has average to good point guard skills and a ton of upside. Kirk Hinrich is getting any better. He can only get worse.

At this point there is no way Mamphis deals Conley unless they sweeten the pot quite a bit. Conley played great down the stretch for the Grizz and is now likely considered part of the core in Memphis.

May 29, 2009  08:22 AM ET

The obvious trade is for Conley..no way Hornets give up chris paul...no way......Blazers can give up Channing Frye or whomever...then Grizzlies draft Ricky Rubio. ...
Conley gets reunited with Oden (they're both scrubs)
Grizzlies get PF in Frye to go with Gasol up front and still draft Su su sudio...ru ..ru...rubio

All of these stories love to throw big names in there just to get people to talking about it. We all know that CP3 will not be going anywhere. I'm just surprised that they didn't throw LeBron and Kobe in there for good measure.

May 29, 2009  08:47 AM ET

I laughed, when i read the article, like he would even have a chance to trade for CP3.

Great point. Kirk would steady the ship and he's a soild defender as well. His shooting would keep teams honest on the perimeter as well.

Don't be so sure....Paul has three years left on his deal. He will be looking for a max deal as soon as possible. New Orleans has already tried to cut payroll in the past. They know they will lose him sooner rather then later. They could trade him to Portland for multiple young players and draft picks. Today's economy changes everything

May 29, 2009  08:54 AM ET

I know this is called "Truth & Rumors" but still it is mighty irresponsible to tease CP3 in a trade rumor purely for clicks. There's absolutely zero chance anyone is trading CP3. And yes I know the team is in a little bit of financial distress but that'll be like selling the roof of your house so you can pay the next mortgage.

Once again this is beyond stupid

May 29, 2009  08:57 AM ET

Don't be so quick to dismiss Paul being traded. His value is high and the Hornets are in "sell" mode. They didn't play as well as expected this season and New Orleans is strapped for cash. Granted, it would be STUPID to trade the best point guard in the league (though Deron Williams is in the argument), but nothing would shock me. He obviously has the most value on the team. If they can find a team willing to part with a few talented guys, and Portland fits that criteria, it could happen. Probably won't, but there's a chance. If the Hornets struggle next season, I think he'll be traded.

I disagree-
they are WEAK at the other forward spot & the Point
they have NO BANGERS that come in and do dirty work
and they are WAY too young.

They cannot keep their core intact long term- so they need to
make moves NOW to mix in veterans & youth.

Roy is a wonderful young talent- but he ain't LBJ/Wade....
he needs more help to compete for a ring

First of all- it ain't happening
secondly- it would take them trading back ROY
you think you're getting CP3 for fernandez, prysbilla,
shavlik randolph and Diagu ????
lol

May 29, 2009  09:08 AM ET

I am a Hinrich fan, but why would trading for him make the Blazers better? Might as well keep Steve Blake who is similar and you get him at half the price. If the Blazers want to improve, they need to get a player like Chris Paul who would dramatically imrpove the team. Hinrich gets you a few more wins and CP3 makes you a title contender.

The Bulls had the same problem a few years back- they had all this talent and didn't know what to to with it. The Bulls held on to it too long and suffered because of it. The bulls are on their way back and should make the playoffs next year but guys like Hinrich and Deng lost their value, Sefalosha was traded for nothing and Ben Gordon- who knows!

May 29, 2009  09:16 AM ET

The Blazer team is full with talent, there's no place for Chris Paul. The Blazers should concentrate on keeping the players they have presently on their team together and become a more cohesive unit. The Blazers are not that far away from seriously contending in the Western Conference. The experience they received from playing in the post season this season should only help to enhance their production for next season.

May 29, 2009  09:16 AM ET

The soft Chris Paul belongs in New Orleans.

thats what t&r is about. truth and RUMORS. its to keep our interest when there is nothing actually going on. its a way to sell advertising. theres nothing wrong with this strategy, but it amazes me how some people dont get it.

But... CP3 not going anywhere? this is george shinn we are talking about. he trashed his teams chemistry by trying to trade chandler in the middle of the season. this is also a guy who traded kobe bryant for vlada divac. so moving chris paul is certainly not out of the question, especially considering the money aspect and the huge contract that paul will command.

Seriously? I mean SERIOUSLY?

All the talk about CP3 is just talk but there is no room (even if this trade was an option).

And concentrate on players they have? Uhh, news flash: Travis Outlaw doesn't belong starting in this league. He's a good "off the bench" guy, but not a starter. And Blake? He's turned out to be a good floor general, but his game has peaked and the Blazers won't get to the next level with these two guys starting. These positions need to be upgraded and Aldridge needs to shift to SF which requires the Blazers to get a true PF.
