Barkley: I will gamble again

Charles Barkley says he is still not gambling but might again someday. The NBA Hall of Famer and TNT analyst also said he's still drinking, but not drinking and driving, since a DUI arrest on New Year's Eve. And Barkley can't wait to get to Lake Tahoe in July to show off his newly retooled golf game. Barkley said he has missed making bets during football season and likely would gamble again someday. If he does gamble, he might want to place a bet on himself to win the celebrity golf tournament July 17-19 at Edgewood-Tahoe Golf Course in Lake Tahoe. Harrah's race and sports book has him at a 499-1 underdog, though he won't pay off as much as he has in the past. Barkley was a 500-1 longshot to win the 2008 tournament and routinely finishes last. "You know what, I'm going down," Barkley said about the odds. Barkley said his golf game has improved under the tutelage of his pal Hank Haney, who is Tiger Woods' swing coach.

why should anyone care if barkley gambles or not?

May 29, 2009  07:37 AM ET

He aint no role model.

A rolly-poley model maybe ...

May 29, 2009  08:00 AM ET

Let it roll Chuck. Its your money, lose it however you want!

All those things he swore he would not do again; he'll do it again. The guy is so hypocritical, he appears on television making comments as to how the younger generation of pro athletes should act and respond to certain situations and he goes and demonstrates the very same thing he preaches against. I know after a while of doing a certain thing for a long period of time; whether good or bad, it becomes habit and can become addictive, and if gambling/drinking are his demons, he will not let go of those habits and continue to do them, especially, if he have friends that he hang around and they are doing those things.

As far as his golf swing goes, its all mental.

I watched The Haney Project and Charles better not bet on himself. His swing is better but he still looks like someone having a fit in a phone booth!

Go ahead. It's your life. If you don't learn from life lessons then it shows how stupid you are. I can't believe this guy is going to run for governor of Alabama.

he's a TV personality-
nothing more, nothing less.

He comments on BASKETBALL, he is an entertainer.
As long as he makes me laugh with his antics I could
care less about his personal life/demons....

I like Charles--always have, but that doesn't mean that I approve of some of his bonehead decisions. I think at this point, his political aspirations would only be an exercise in futility, and another way to embarras himself. I doubt that a drinking, gambling, whoring Governor is going to make anything better in Alabama.

May 29, 2009  09:01 AM ET

Do what you do Charles....

why would you want to give all that up to go into public service?

And if he were to get elected it would probably be the single lowest moment in our state's storied history....which is really saying something.

Good question. Sounds like fun if you can afford it.

I'm pretty sure these things qualify him to be Governor of Alabama.

When did he stop?

I like Sir Charles. He is twice the man any entertainer out there is.

Twice in both size and personality.
