First came news Wednesday out of Memphis that the NCAA is investigating an allegedly fraudulent SAT score of a Memphis basketball player from the 2007-08 Final Four team, reportedly Derrick Rose. Then a Chicago Public Schools source said Thursday that a grade on Rose's high school transcript was changed from a D to a C by someone at Simeon Career Academy in the final semester of his senior year.

wow! i mean the story is getting worse and worse for rose... im starting to think its true he sounds like he has a very low i.q. im post game interviews

May 29, 2009  07:49 AM ET

HE GOT GAME.

May 29, 2009  07:58 AM ET

Big Deal. It happens all the time. The story would have been Rose didn't get grades changed and he took his own SAT. The NBA age rule is going to ruin college basketball. Rose should have been allowed to play in the NBA straight out of high school.

May 29, 2009  08:02 AM ET

Obviously this stuff always goes on. But why is it that everyone typically gets punished (coach, college/university, teacher) except the player themselves who have since become millionaires in the "system" they feel so screwed by?

May 29, 2009  08:09 AM ET

This is stupid, why should anyone care about this crap. Those reporters should be proud of themselves, they really broke the story thats going to save the world

May 29, 2009  08:14 AM ET

FB91, what if any thing can they do to a player that is long gone from the high school or the college? Nothing. 99.999% of the time the player doesn't change the grade but may be aware that special things where done to make sure the player qualifies or is eligible. Not much you can do.

May 29, 2009  08:23 AM ET

I hear you. Its a flawed system but it seems pointless to pursue things years after the fact and put sanctions on a coach or college.

This is where 1 year in college rule really stinks. A stupid rule in the first place. If a kid wants to join the draft, no matter what draft it is, then he should be able to join when he turns 18. Stern thinks he is helping everybody out w/ this rule but he just made it complicated for a lot of kids. These kids are force to go college even if they didn't want to. If a kid can go to war and die for his country then he should be able to put his name in the NBA draft. If he really wants to help kids out then he should allow the 18 years old who wants to enter the NBA draft. If a kid don't get drafted then you can do your part by letting him go to college and helping him out. This is what the true meaning of helping out the kids. If a kid don't get drafted then colleges should be able to recruit them and actually help them out and at the same time they will help out that college that they chose. The rule really stinks.

You can thank the stupid " one size fits all mentality " of the NCAA for that

In the full story: As for the changed grade on the Simeon transcript, a month after colleges received Rose's doctored transcript, the grade was changed back to D, and a report by the Chicago Public Schools inspector general's office. So Rose only got in to Memphis, cause of the False Grade ?But, hey it Chicago & Illinois : Land of the CORRUPT : Rod Blagojevich !

Well, it could be worse, you could live in Milwau...

Oops, nevermind!!!

You're using the same logic as you hear 18 & 19 years olds use every year because they want to be able to drink...lol

See you're totally not getting the point-

The one year is 100% for the IMPROVEMENT of the NBA
it allows GM's an extra year of scouting the kids vs at least
mildly upgraded talent than HS kids....or 17 year old internat kids
who barely play & are drafted cause they're tall
- you think Kwame Brown would've gone #1 if he went to school
and SHOWED he was simply a big oaf ?? NO

Also the NBA is a PROFESSIONAL league-
if the kid wants to go elsewhere - THEY CAN-
ala brandon Jennings this year

I think it should be a TWO year college or professional ball
minimum before being eligible for the draft.....
the NBA would be even BETTER-

I also think college kids should be allowed at least to get
paid for endorsements.....some of these kids have a TINY
window to make $$$$. Why SHOULDN'T they earn some $$

May 29, 2009  09:05 AM ET

OH NO THE BULLS WILL HAVE TO FORFEIT ALL THOSE WINS LAST YEAR IF THIS SCANDAL TURNS OUT TO BE TRUE!!!!!!

May 29, 2009  09:10 AM ET

What a blow this must be to Tim Floyd and his attempts to have the #1 dirtiest NCAA basketball program. That John Calipari just keeps 1 upping him! Does anyone really care anymore about grade scandals? Rose took 3 classes in the fall and 3 in the spring that he incompleted thru I'm sure a 0 attendance, so the whole charade that these guys are student-athletes is getting silly. Just call them minor league or semi pro and be done w/ this act. I'm sure Derrick Rose interviewed the science dept. and was gravely concerned about the # of Rhodes Scholars on faculty when he went to Memphis.

But not every kid has the grade or the IQ for college. That's why colleges have to break some rules to get kids in because they are unable to make the grade. If HS kid is really good then the NBA scouts should do their diligence to scout them more. It will be the teams fault for drafting somebody they don't know much about. Like I said, if a kid don't get drafted then they should be able to go to college. It will be up to the college to help out the kid and teach him to grow. Maybe they can't enter the draft again until they have their 3-4 years. By then the kid would have benefitted from college and the NBA and college would have benefitted from the kid.

May 29, 2009  09:18 AM ET

Colleges and universities have very little interest in the overall development of their athletes. It's all about the "Benjamins." Nothing is going to happen here. In a few days it will be forgotten about, and we'll move on to the next incident. Are we to believe they just found this out?

May 29, 2009  09:20 AM ET

I'm surprised how many people are saying "who cares?". This clearly shows that a player broke rules. And if he did it before, and went unpunished, chances, he'll do so again.

Guys - this is a question of character, and setting an example for other young kids that look up to these so-called "professionals" as role models.
If Derrick Rose cheated, he should be punished to the fullest extent possible. I see a lot of comments about how dumb the rules are. Rules are rules, and if they are not practical, efforts should be made to change/fix them, but NOT break them.

I LOVED Rose during the season, and I thought he was going to be someone like Roy or even better. But after reading this news, I can't root for him anymore. My 10 cents to the economy will not go in the name of ANY cheat.

If you're not smart enough to go to college -
PLAY BALL ELSEWHERE....you may not get the 3mil deal
but you can earn a living in Europe.....
-the NBA isn't a 'right' it is a BUSINESS- they can EXCLUDE
whomever they want- ESPECIALLY if it is good for the league
in the long run- by weeding out players that don't have it

The NCAA has nothing to do with anything-
if a kid- and rightly so- wants to earn NOW- they CAN
in any # of professional leagues around the world

If HS kid is really good then the NBA scouts should do their diligence to scout them more. It will be the teams fault for drafting somebody they don't know much about

lol- how can you scout a guy like Greg Odom a 7 footer
playing against BOYS who are 6'2 ????
Can't happen
We ain't talking abou tLBJ's that come around 1x a generation
we're talking about the Kwame Browns, Darko Milicecs, etc....
guys that got drafted SOLEY based on their size 'potential'
- if they had atually PLAYED more against decent competition
they would've been EXPOSED and not drafted so high

Well that's one of the dumber comments I've seen on here in quite some time, congrats! Naive people like you astound me.

I'm Canadian and not familiar with all the basketball leagues or opportunities that a kid has to make money without the IQ or ability to go to college, but this is interesting. So what exactly can a 17 or 18 year old kid do to make money or further his career without going to college between HS and NBA draft eligibility? Are there pro development leagues that players can go to other than moving across the world? Can players make enough money to only play ball during this time to really develop their skills. I doubt that a kid with a lower IQ could handle moving across the world without getting into some trouble or struggling with being so far from home. Also, if teams in Europe know that players are only going to play for one year, why would they want them? Would you want your NBA team to be signing players on one year contracts and then losing out on them if they are successful? I'm sure it would get old fast! The NBA isn't a right, but neither is college. College is a privilege, and this privilege is taken away from some kids who may have one shot to go and its taken away from them by a guy who is going to play one year and leave because of some rule that doesn't seem to make sense to me. But what do I know?
