Dallas willing to deal for Hogs RB

The Cowboys absolutely want Arkansas RB Darren McFadden in the 2008 draft based on what he did last season. Their two first-round choices will give them the ammunition to make a bid, if Cleveland doesn't give them a top-five pick with a poor performance.

Heeee Haaawwwww !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This bugs me... why would they be talking about this guy when he is still in college and has a year to play....

poor taste...

July 5, 2007  10:26 AM ET

What a useless article...

July 5, 2007  10:46 AM ET

if the Cowboys really have been publicly talking about him that is poor taste....especially given the fact that it seems more and more college football players get in trouble for having pro talks before they're allowed to.

July 5, 2007  10:50 AM ET

Why are they talking about this guy now? Why not? It just garners interest. If Jerry Jones says he wants something, just about every other owner is going to prick up their ears to find out what he's doing. He has that much pull and power.

Stick around and you'll see lot's of useless articles.
you get players saying 'were going to win the superbowl'
race car drivers saying 'I'm going to win a race'
etc. etc.
getting more pointless to visit this site everyday, the only reason I show up is boredom at work.

Is this even a story. I mean, I said this during the draft when they got Clevelands pick. Come on guys, find something else to write about. I think Pacman or Vick have to be doing something this week...jk

Actually...yes it is huge news if you've been reading between the lines lately. Dallas seems to be on top of things. Say what you will, but the 'Boys almost made it deeper into the playoffs than most expected. The T.O. situation was almost non-existent(and since the season ended, I haven't heard a negative thing about him either). They have a young front 7 on D. And the one piece they really could have used last season was great RB. So...if you've been paying attention, and have taken notice that the Browns are no where near able to afford both Quinn and Thomas, subsequently leading to both trying to pull strings by threatening a hold, their season is pretty much a guaranteed loser. You couple those recent developments with 2 first round picks owned currently by Dallas, one of them VIA Cleveland, and you pretty much have the bait needed to pull of a mega-trade next year, and pretty much blast the draft into the stone age for everyone else in the 10. It's pretty huge news I'd say. Even if it's all smoke and mirrors, it still says a bunch about Jerry Jones and his desire to reach the promised land.

The SF pick won't be as good as you think. The NFC West is weak and they have a greatly improved team. They have question marks at receiver but are starting to turn the corner about a year ahead of schedule. The Cowboys have the Browns pick....I mean come on....they're the Browns. The Cowboys will have 2 picks in the top 20, maybe even a pick (Browns) in the top 5. They will package some picks or a pick and a player (Julius Jones or Marion Barber???) to move up and draft McFadden. The guy is a do everything back. Ofcourse, if he comes out early, and this is an if, the back from West Virginia, Steve Slaton, would be a good pick as well.

Draft coverage - even a year or two away - is much more robust than it used to be. It's not too crazy to be talking about next years draft picks. Most of us are already looking at who to get. It's the buzzzz ! Personally, I'm thinking we get the best safety available on the planet and then anotehr receiver. There wil be tried and true RBs in Free Agency when needed. Jerry's got the cash; the cap is fine.

July 5, 2007  03:54 PM ET

Three, that SF pick wont be that high. They have a solid young team and a average schedule in terms of difficulty.

July 5, 2007  04:02 PM ET

This is just summertime page filler fodder... I mean there's NOTHING else to report about...

July 5, 2007  04:03 PM ET

WHATEVER THE F*** THEY SAY!!

July 5, 2007  04:29 PM ET

Yeah, seems like this is a little premature.

July 5, 2007  05:14 PM ET

The 49ers are tight. They could win their divison this year. I already knew this would take place as soon as Goddell announced that we traded our pick to the Browns. He is a very exciting player and Jones loves that he is an Arkansas boy!

I really like Marion Barber but looking at McFadden.....He is like a bigger Bush. He is not on that level yet, but another great year against the SEC oppenents....HE could be better. The reason I say that is because...If you look at Arkansas....They can't pass the ball. So teams would load up the box trying to stop McFadden and Jones.....But they couldnt. Bush had Jarrett, Smith, Byrd, and White.....Defenses had to respect the run and pass.

Look for Jones to push up and try to get McFadden. We will have a Top 10 from the Browns and a late 1st. If needed we can throw in a 3rd or something. We still need another Young WR.

July 5, 2007  08:24 PM ET

The 'Boys will have a top-5 pick, probally a top-3 from the Browns.I highly doubt that they will need to package something together to take him unless whatever team is a spot or two above them needs a RB.

July 5, 2007  09:18 PM ET

The beautiful thing about it all is that Dallas will be coming into the draft wanting a RB and will have their choice of the top ones, not just McFadden, although he would be the prize of the 1st round. That said, if he were to go before Dallas' pick, I wouldn't be crying if Jerry brought home Steve Slaton or Ray Rice. Better yet, where's that WR we were supposed to take this year?

July 5, 2007  10:04 PM ET

Why would they want a running back? Limas Sweed, DeSean Jackson, Early Doucet, and Mario Manningham will all be on the board!

July 5, 2007  10:40 PM ET

Running backs are usually instant success. Receivers are a high risk pick, everyone knows that. None of those receivers are a guarantee, especially as a rookie. How many have been instant studs like backs? The cowboys are playing for now and I would rather try to find a receiver on the market and a sure thing back in the draft. Backs have a short shelf life. You gotta get them while their young. Receivers take time. Unless your Randy Moss.
