Auburn recruiter: Not padding commitments

Quality, not quantity, seems to be Auburn's message in light of the fact that four players from the Class of 2010 have committed to the Tigers so far -- compared to SEC rivals Alabama and Florida, who each have three times as many. Auburn recruiting coordinator Curtis Luper says the number reflects the Tigers' thoroughness, making sure they get the right players -- not necessarily the most by some arbitrary deadline. Georgia and Georgia Tech are in the same situation, with the Bulldogs also having four commits and the Yellow Jackets three. "We're not in a commitment race," Luper told the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer. "People in their haste to get early commitments may not evaluate as thoroughly as they should. So we want to thoroughly evaluate every aspect of every potential student athlete. And we're not going to make any mistakes in character and some of the other intangibles that we can find out."

Oh and the kids keep committing elsewhere for some reason.

Only 2010 recruit I'm seriously paying attention to right now is Seastrunk. Not exactly 38th at his position. Sign him up, Mack!!!

He will be camping at Texas June 7th. That's a good thing. As will Reed and Nelson. Unknowns are Jeffcoat and Matthews.

No top RB is going to Texas. That don't highlight the rbs enough and are more tha nhappy to plug anyone in that fits their system.

May 30, 2009  03:36 PM ET

Lache Seastrunk is one of the 25 top recruits in the nation in Auburn this weekend. I bet he signs with Auburn because he is friends with Coach Luper and has already said Auburn is his #1.

The purpose of the quote was to incinuate that some schools dont evaluate certain players well enough, not if players quickly commit to other schools dumb ass.

Bad first post and completely wrong.

Ricky Williams-(HS All american, #2 all time NCAA rusher, NFL)

Selvin Young-(#5 at his position coming out of HS, injuries derailed promising career but still 3500 career yds, NFL)

Cedric Benson (HS All American, #6 all time NCAA rusher, NFL)

Jamaal Charles (HS All American, 3,400 career rushing yds at UT in 3 yrs, left after Jr year)-he would have been a SR in 2008. Could have rushed for 5k yds had he stayed.

Texas problem is they go all or none and they lost out on Darrell Scott in 08 who would have replaced Charles as the feature back. Those running backs listed are pretty much the feature backs for Texas during Mack Browns tenure. This year they took Chris Whaley but again all or none as Christine Michael (A&M) would have signed with Texas if offered. Both are studs.

Earl Campbell, Ricky Williams, et al might disagree.

I wouldn't get all stiff about it. No one knows what the kids gonna do.

Yes Auburn has an in because of the whole coach is the son of his preacher thing. That's the only reason he even thought about Auburn.

LSU has an in because his best buddy is Trovon Reed who will probably sign there and he wants to play with him plus he has family there.

USC has an in because he has family in the area and he really likes what they do with RB's plus the chance to play for NC.

Texas has an in due to chance to play for NC, its very close to home, and he is good friends with Connor Wood who will sign with Texas.

Bottom line is no one knows where he'll sign because he tells no one not even his coach where he's leaning. Everyones guessing based on pure speculation and trying to read between lines. He's already said he won't say anything or commit until NSD in Feb 2010.

He's not one of the top 25 recruits, he's the number 2 recruit in the nation at any position.

As is Auburn. Bo knows that.

Nice hooters.

AU only has room in the limo for a couple of players, anyway. It ain't all that big, and gotta have room for the...how shall I say it..."female talent"?

FJJ - I hope Connor Wood's verbal sticks. OU was recruiting him heavily as were many other programs. The Longhorns already have one of the best QB prospects from the 2009 class in Garrett Gilbert. Let's hope Connor Wood doesnt go all "Jevan Snead" on us.

Interesting that both Wood and Gilbert are pro-style QBs.
