Bulls interested in point guards

For the second straight day, a point guard insisted the Bulls have expressed major interest in him. That UCLA's Darren Collison followed Syracuse's Jonny Flynn with such words means either the players are cocky and excitable, the Bulls want insurance in case Kirk Hinrich is traded or Ben Gordon signs elsewhere or Derrick Rose is a bust. And yes, the last guess is a joke. his is serious, though: Point guard is the deepest position in the June 25 NBA draft and the Bulls, should they remain at No. 16 and No. 26, are confident they can find a solid prospect if they want one.

Sounds like a wasted pick to me at #16. Certainly they could get a backup point guard later. I'd like to see them get Earl Clark if he's still available, or take a good look at Tyler Hansbrough.

I agree about a player like Clark but Hansbrough? With Miller, Thomas (Tyrus), Noah and even Deng, it would be hard to get him minutes.

Also, drafting a PG shows their interest (or lack there of) in keeping Hinrich.

Chicago...please take Derek Fisher and Adam Morrison. We'll have Kirk Hinrich. Thanks.

I knew Laker fans would love to have Hinrich. Ive argued that point soo many times on this site. HAHA

'sounds like' ???
it absolutely IS a wasted pick.....
- NO ONE is taking Hinrich's contract this year-
they have an EXCELLENT pg/back-up pg combo....they have MANY
other needs that they can address - it's fine to work everyone out
but t would be STUPID to draft a pg

I'm a huge proponent of BPA, and this draft is loaded with point guards. Holiday should be on top of their wish list.

I can't disagree-
but if you have a young STUD pg- who's going to be playing
basically 40 minutes a night AND you have a quality back up
pg with a hefty salary....when is the BPA pg going to get any
playing time ? your giving him a THREE year guaranteed deal
basically to ride pine- it's crazy-

May 30, 2009  11:56 AM ET

yea sounds like a sign and trade type of deal. y get a pg when u got rose???

Not happening (or at least shouldn't). They can get better for Hinrich than that.

Hinrich can be traded and Rose can be injured. Things like this happen.

In 1994, the Blazers passed up on Michael Jordan in part because they had Clyde Drexler and Jim Paxson and opted instead for Sam Bowie, one of the biggest NBA busts in history. Recently, the Dallas Mavericks drafted Josh Howard (with many players at the same spot), Devin Harris (with the assumption Steve Nash would stay), and recently Eddie Najera. None of these guys filled a need at the time, but they were the BPA. Is this always the case, no but it is part of the reason why I would rather draft a player with star potential than a a possible role player.

Outside of the top five or ten you should always draft Best Player Available. Injuries happen, and you are required by the league to lock-up your first round picks to a contract. You dont want to draft need at 15 and have them be a bust on your books for three years yet still taking up a roster spot.

Drafting "BPA" gives your team flexibility to move guys around or be prepared for the worst.

Earl Clark makes sense, Psycho T does not. The Bulls need someone that can create their own shot. Clark can do it on the wing or block, Hansbrough cannot. Terrence Williams is another player the Bulls should consider, he can shoot, handle the ball and get to the cup. I really want him to go to my LAKERS, but I don't think he'll be available.

Laker fans always think it's about them. Poor winners. Have a little class and stick to the actual post.

Now that just wouldn't be fair. Kirk-Kobe would be the best backcourt in the league and could translate into a Laker dynasty.

Any team that needs a point guard should try to get Hinrich. His contract isn't bad for a starter- he's gets $9.5, $9m, & $8m over the next three seasons. Everyone is talking about Miller, Kidd, and Bibby, but a healthy Hinrich is better option than those guys. He defends, shoots, penetrates, and is younger.

Just to make you happy, I'll make this thread relevant. The LAKERS are willing to trade Farmar & Walton, along with this year's first-round pick for the Bulls #16 selection (Terrence Williams or Earl Clark). No, we don't think it's about us. We KNOW it's about us. I'm on these threadfs pretty regular, I don't recall you lambasting the LAKER haters when they're posting irrelevant, negative stuff about the LAKERS. Why is that? Maybe because you're one of them?

May 30, 2009  02:41 PM ET

Maybe. But, I actually have called people on continually bringing up kobes past legal issue, telling them it's not relevant. But, I still don't think its all about you.

You're right, it's not about us. It's about 31 other NBA franchises trying to duplicate what we've accomplished.
