Knicks proposing Grizzlies deals?

With less than a month to go before the draft, the Grizzlies are in exploratory mode with the No. 2 overall pick -- from trading up in order to pry No. 1-in-waiting Blake Griffin from the Los Angeles Clippers to moving down and acquiring an established NBA player. The pre-draft rumor mill, though, has the Grizzlies spinning in a number of directions: The New York Knicks offered to buy the Grizzlies' 27th pick for $3million, according to a source. The Griz turned down that proposal. The Knicks, according to speculation, also expressed interest in acquiring center Darko Milicic in a deal that could possibly include Quentin Richardson, whose $9.3 million contract expires after the 2009-10 season. Milicic will earn $7.5 million this upcoming season -- the last of a three-year, $21 million deal. Oklahoma City and Sacramento are said to be interested in moving up from the third and fourth slots, respectively.

I'd like to hire the agent that was able to negotiate $7.5 million for Darko. This is so typical of Donnie Walsh. Why in the hell would he be even remotely interested in the biggest bust ever at #3.

Donnie's interested 'coz he wants Darko, Kwame, Yi all to play together in NY. He's trying to top Isiah, but that's extremely hard to do.

Hmmm; that's a helluva start for a rebuilding program. Put these guys with Curry, Jeffries, and jerome James, and you've got something special.

It will be in Darko's interest to force a trade to the Knicks... if he has any chance of redeeming his carreer it will be under Mike D'Antoni's system. I hope he comes to the Knicks and buying a 27th overall pick for 3 million is not a bad idea either... it can be used on a sleeper or another trade... lets go Knicks...

Check out this trade....

Jared Jeffries and Chris Duhon for Brian Cardinal, Mark Madson, and Corey Brewer (all expiring contracts). This is a good trade for both teams.

if we can unload JJ for ANYTHING it is a good trade

May 30, 2009  11:19 AM ET

darko for Q - both with expiring deals is insignificant -
though it'd be nice not to see Q bang his head anymore after
hitting a damn 3 pointer (not that he hits them much anymore)

I didn't realize you can buy draft picks-
interesting...

Dude; your comments never sease to amaze me. Darko ia anther bust, he has absolutely nothing to offer this team. If he weren't 7 feet, he might be in the cubicle next to you. Why would we get rid of Jerome James and then go after Darko? Forget the salary cap. If the Knicks could get Darko for $29.95, they're still being ripped off.

Dude; salary cap means nothing if you can't compete. You build a team with players. The Bobcats, the Clippers, and the Grizzlies are all in excellent salary cap position. Who cares?

May 30, 2009  11:37 AM ET

Sounds more like a move for John Wall not Darko Milicic

absolutely-
but before we can compete we have to GET players-
and in order to get players - we have to wheel & deal AND
get enough cap space to acquire said players.....

Believe me- I do agree with you in principle- but really who
on the knick squad is a 'player' ??

Lee, Harrington (if he ha a brain) and Chandler....That's IT
we have basically zero to work with

donnie is no fool, they deal is a smart one its all about $$$ its a no brainer to pay darko 7.5mill for 1yr instead of 9.3 mill a yr for two more yrs... its all about clearing the cap for 2010... on another note can the knicks put up a offer to buy o.j. mayo from the grizz lol

Donnie is a fool. If you can get Darko free, you're still a loser because he is of no help.

both Q and Darkos deals end this coming year-
there are no long-term cap ramifications
All it would be is a swap of players...a change of scenery

David Lee is a player, and you agree to trading him.

Darko was the #2 pick, but whatever. There is no denying that he is a bust, however, he is still a servicable big man whose stats compare well with the bird man (a player that has been invauable for the recently departed nuggets this post season).
