Sidney Crosby slashed Kirk Maltby in the line of Red Wings skating over to Chris Osgood. Crosby said after the game that Maltby was doing a ton of yapping during the night: "He felt it was necessary to keep talking after the game, and I thought I'd whack him."

What?? The over-rated prince of the NHL doing something wrong?

Watch out Pens fans, with the way your defense is playing, you may get swept in this series.

Great to see Cindy has "matured" so much since the finals last year. LOL

He's certainly taken whining to a whole new level.

May 31, 2009  09:53 AM ET

Crosby is a crybaby. That's all it is. Wings in 5.

May 31, 2009  10:02 AM ET

Why Crosby Slashed Maltby. Huh, it took them a paragraph to answere that question, when I could have done it in a short sentence. He's A Spoiled Punk.

May 31, 2009  10:10 AM ET

Whoa, whoa. He's an all-world star, and his class should be unquestioned. I'm a Wings fan, and I feel no animosity for this. Maltby is a pest. Its his job. Crosby is fired up for this series, and the pest got to him at the end of the game, that's all there is to it. Maltby kept chirping, and Crosby pushed back - what's wrong with that? It shows passion, proves he's not a robot, and sends the message to Maltby and the rest of the Wings that he isn't going to sit back and take **** this year like he did last year. This is what the best players do - up their intensity level for the Finals - and I like it, personally.

May 31, 2009  10:13 AM ET

Was there anybody out there that thought the Pens would actually win this series?

Well said.

I love how everyone has this series over after one game. It was an evenly played game with the exception of some lucky bounces going Detroit's way. Unless of course you think it actually takes "skill" to shoot a puck off the end boards and have it bounce off the goalie and into the net (first goal). The second Detroit goal was also the result of a fortunate bounce.

One game does not a series make.

May 31, 2009  10:30 AM ET

I know who's going to get whacked tonight... I can hardly wait...

That's for sure!

May 31, 2009  11:07 AM ET

The Wings will win the first two and the Pens games three and four. I think it goes seven. This isn't the same team Detroit faced last year.

May 31, 2009  11:20 AM ET

Slash? lol

that was a tap at worst.

no different than one fighter shoving the other after the first round.

May 31, 2009  11:24 AM ET

If Messier did this (and he most definitly did this and worse) it would be applauded as a sign of leadership.

Just letting the Wings know they would be back on the ice in 20 hours.

May 31, 2009  11:26 AM ET

just what Babcock wanted. a fourth liner getting under Crosby's skin. more to come. The Red Wings know that the intangibles are what wins cups. watch for Maltby amping it up tonight as well as the other fourth liners. great players don't let marginal players get involved in their game.

Also well said Matt.

If people reacted to Crosby's yapping in the same way, he'd already be dead--and I'm not even counting the refs.

May 31, 2009  11:57 AM ET

I'm a die hard Penguins fan--- It's f**king over.... unless Hossa oa Frazen take one to the chin.. And Pittsburgh is too pretty to do that.

May 31, 2009  12:02 PM ET

He deserved it

May 31, 2009  12:06 PM ET

To Quote that commercial "I never want to be in this picture again"- Well we dont always get what we want. Crybaby Crosby will finally learn that lesson

May 31, 2009  12:07 PM ET

As soon as a team gets under your skin, it's over. Ask the Black Hawks. That's exactly what Maltby.
