Vols QB reports death threats
Jonathan Crompton hesitates when asked the question. Never one to look for pity, he's extremely uncomfortable during an interview over lunch discussing the persistent verbal attacks he received from Tennessee football fans who were disappointed by his performance last season. Yet Crompton confirmed what the News Sentinel had been told months ago, that the cell phone calls and e-mails escalated to death threats as the Vols stumbled to a 5-7 season. "I did have death threats," the senior quarterback reluctantly said. Crompton said he received "a couple" of the threats, all via e-mail, as the Vols were struggling last fall.

It's a game, people. A very, very important game, one to which I am hopelessly addicted. But it's a ****ing game.

That's ridiculous. People get a life. It's a game and he's a kid playing a game.

Did the threats come after Crompton ripped his shirt off?

Well, we know this had to be Tennessee fans. All fans of other teams in the SEC were happy with his performance last season.

Nice.
But I don't understand death threats to get a kid to play better. "Lets call that emmie-effer up and let him know his next interception will be his last...emmie-effer..."

Crompton wasn't nearly as bad as Lee. Did Lee receive death threats with each of his pick sixes?

Threats need to be prosecuted. Zero tolerance policy.

Well, it's cheaper now to send a death threat than it is to shoot out your TV.

Good point. It's not like he was intentionally incompetent-- I'm sure he WANTED to play well.
Some fans are clearly defective people.

I hate to hear this. No kid should have to deal with this. You go out there every week and do the best you can; some players ARE more talented than others, but death threats: come on?! I really feel sorry for Crompton, sure I'm not a Vols fan, but I don't want to see players get hurt on the field and I don't like hearing about athletes geting death threats due to their performance. Blame the coach, but I wouldn't condone death threats there either.
