USC forward Marcus Johnson has decided to turn pro, Trojans basketball Coach Tim Floyd said Monday. Johnson, a 6-foot-7 transfer from Connecticut, averaged 3.6 points in 16 games last season. He is the fourth USC player to leave school early and turn pro since the season ended. Junior forward Taj Gibson, junior guard Daniel Hackett and freshman forward DeMar DeRozan have also declared for the NBA draft. The Trojans have also lost three recruits since the season ended, center Renardo Sidney, forward Noel Johnson and forward Solomon Hill.

Is there much of a pay increase when the USC guys turn pro?

June 2, 2009  09:34 AM ET

Where do these guys get the idea that something like 3.6 points per game translates into a professional career? Leave school early for this? It's almost as entertaining as yesterday's story about the athlete walking away from a scholarship to pursue rap music.

I dont care if the school is going on probation or not. USC is not going to win the national title next year anyway. The guy averaging 3.6 ppg could have come back and at least got up in the double figures before thinking he was a pro basketball player.

Bubba there's got to be alot more to this story then is being reported. No one in their right mind with those stats thinks they are highly sought after by the NBA. Maybe if he were 7'4' and could block shots but not at 6'7'. Guys that size are a dime a dozen for the NBA.

I was excited when we hired Floyd. A chance to actually be legit in basketball. Now we are in worse shape than we were before he got here. We need to dump this jackhole, and find some young, up and coming guy to build this thing up.

Agreed.

I think he revealed his stripes when he danced with AZ. You guys are better off with someone new.

I believe the correct phrase is "turning pro-er" when a USC player does it.

I would have been too in your position but you're right. Time to clean house and move on. Too much baggage at this point.

Looks more like he's loosing one of his nuts.

OK OK. I'll say it. In that photo Tim Floyd has Lane Kiffin mouth.

On my screen, just beside Floyd's toothless pic, is an ad for white teeth. Go figure.

I actually think Floyd sells these blue chippers on his NBA knowledge and how he can get them to that level quickly but I agree that most of them would be better off staying put for a while. I wonder what the USC athletic department thinks about all the one and dones...?

Yeah this isn't what I thought would be happening.

Hiring a young up and comer is definitely hit and miss. For every Billy Donovan there are several Stan Heath's.
