Sutter to decide Devils future soon

It's June and Brent Sutter still hasn't decided whether he will be back next season to coach the Devils. But Sutter, who was building a fence back in Red Deer, Alberta, when I spoke to him on Monday, said he understands he must make a decision soon rather than sit on that fence. "I know I need to make a decision at some point in time and I know I have to make it soon," Sutter said via telephone. He said he is somewhat surprised that people are anxious to hear his decision.

He did a pretty decent job with the Devils, given the injuries and all.

True, although losing two straight first-round series against lower seeded teams probably leaves a bad taste. This year, the injuries definitely came into play after the regular season though. If he would leave, I don't think he would have trouble finding a new team.

he will coach with the Devils one more year and then take the job in Calgary from his brother. he wants to be close to his family in Viking Alberta and his junior team in Red Deer. Big Lou might let him out of his last year also as he does have a history of doing so. Brent can flat out coach and if he gets close to home he could be the difference for the Flames in the coming years

He'll have his mind made up before Sundin does...I still believe the stumbling block for his is the availability of the coaching job in Calgary. Of course people are anxious to hear of his decision...why would that surprise him?
Especially Lou in New Jersey is going to be anxious to see if he has a coach for next season or not and with the draft coming up etc...What Sutter is doing is as bad as a player that can't make up his mind...and he IS under contract.

He did a good job in the regular season. He has been out-coached in the playoffs. Go to Calgary where that's par for the course (j/k), but him leaving will not mean much to the Devils. They have had many coaches who can coach well in the regular season. If you want to stay at home, than stay at home. I wish Lou would just let him go already so I don't have to keep hearing from him. It's hard enough listening to him during the season (most monotone man in the world), but now I have to hear from him during the off-season. GO AWAY.

The team looked incredible until the last few weeks and playoffs, who got injured. Seams Detroit doesn't miss a stride with a few key injuries. Giving up 2 goals at the end of the game. seams like that is a player problem.

If the devils are lucky, he will slip and impale his arse on that fence he's building and they will go on without him

bring him back

June 2, 2009  01:27 PM ET

He will be the coach of the Flames by the draft in exchange for a mid round draft pick.
