Will Datsyuk play in Game 3?

It doesn't look favorable that Pavel Datsyuk will be able to play in Game 3 tonight in Pittsburgh. Datsyuk didn't participate in the optional morning skate Monday, although he looked to be walking with considerably less difficulty than in recent days. "I haven't been in the medical room yet," Wings coach Mike Babcock said. "But they haven't told me anything."

The Wings are doing fine without him. Don't rush him back, he may become a libilty if he plays injured.

Yep, look at Alfie last year in round one. He's a great player, don't want him to come back early and get really hurt.

This is either a really bad sprain or cracked bone. I'm guessing sprain and I doubt very much that we will see Pavel in this series unless it gets very close. I must be killing him to have to be watching from the sidelines.

June 2, 2009  08:48 AM ET

Save him for a 5th game if necessary.

June 2, 2009  09:41 AM ET

Let him rest. Chances are they wont need him since the Pens are so outmatched. If they actually show up a game or two then Pavel might need to suit up just to close out the series. Doubtful though.

June 2, 2009  09:55 AM ET

From what I hear, no. Also sounds like Draper is healthy enough to play, but Babcock is keeping the same lineup that has put them up 2-0 already.

It does make one wonder how bad the injury is...makes me learn towards a broken/cracked bone. Maybe they are saving him for a crowd motivator for game 5, if they need it.

Foot's broken. A buddy is a doctor in the hospital that these guys go to. He's out for the series from what he is telling me.

I've heard it's a broken foot as well. Poor Penguins...we spot them a series without our best player and they can't do anything with it.

Quite possibly correct GoCan. I don't think they dress him unless it comes do to a game 7 if he can go at all...
Many are waiting for the Pens stars to break out in this series and they just might...I would also venture that pretty soon the Wing's stars are just as due...should be a good one tonight. I'm interested to see if there is any change in how the refs will call this one.

Um, speaking of Penguins' stars, aren't you supposed to be sporting one?

I'm thinking a road game will be the tonic for the Wings troops. If Pitt doesn't come out and get a 2 goal lead after one period, Wings will win Game 3 as well.

I think Datsyuk blocked a shot or two in the wrong spot. So many bones in a foot to break.....

I wonder if Pavel heard Twilight Zone music the day before the playoffs started? That was the day I instructed my daughter to pick Pavel in the first group of her hockey pool where she works. He's played very well but has been snake bit on point production and now he's injured.

In a nutshell it's why I don't do pools. I am the Kiss of Death.

I'd love to see him back, but only at 100%. The young guys in the Detroit lineup are really sparking them with thier speed and work. The third and fourth line guys are the difference in this series so far.

June 2, 2009  11:59 AM ET

I'd enjoy seeing him play, but not at risk to himself. We're doing pretty OK without him thus far. There's no use in getting a careeer ended up 2-0.

No need for him. Ok, thats a lie, there is always need for another shutdown center who is capable of stifling offensive chances and adding to the depth the Wings already have. But Babs is rolling 4 lines right now that are giving the Pens fits.

June 2, 2009  12:35 PM ET

he will be there

June 2, 2009  02:34 PM ET

he won't play tonite...there's no need to endanger his health being up 2-0...if the Pens make a series of it going back to Detroit..you might see him...otherwise my bet is he's out for the finals.

June 2, 2009  02:55 PM ET

"Mikael Samuelsson might not play; Pavel Datsyuk shows improvement" is a headline in the Detroit News. In fact Datsyuk has been skating all along
"Star center Pavel Datsyuk didn't participate in team drills Tuesday but was on the ice at end of the practice to workout with the extra players"
Another quote. And Draper seems ready, so the Wings are good to go.

Ouch. I like him. He loves to shoot.

It doesnt matter if he plays or not, cause the Pens are toast.

You are coming around from the Pens sweep you started with initially.
