Huskies still hoping for stadium upgrade

They had hoped Husky Stadium would be getting ready for a renovation right now. Instead, after an effort this spring to get state public funding for half the project fell through, it is the renovation plan itself that is back on the drawing board. In the wake of that failure to get public money -- the school was asking for $150 million from the same King County tourism tax used to fund Safeco Field and Qwest Field -- the 12-member Husky Stadium Advisory Committee met recently to consider where the project goes now. "Everything is on the table," said UW athletic director Scott Woodward. Well, everything except punting on the issue or deciding to play at Qwest Field instead.

Where are the boosters in all of this? Can't see the public wanting to shell out money for a stadium in these economic times when there are more pressing issues. But, if its a tourism tax I guess it won't effect the locals so much as businesses and visitors.

They need to upgrade the team. Your average junior high stadium would be wanting a team upgrade if the Huskies had played there last year.

Sweet avatar. Unfortunately for me, I still consider her to be quite young.

Elite athletes are amazing as a group and neither myself nor the general population can even begin to understand what they do or how they train to become successful. Or even have the drive to do so.

But she's amazing to me given her age and what she's accomplished. As someone a smidge older then myself I remember watching her back in the 80's. Now, all these years later, when I get out of bed and my feet ache and back hurts I can't even begin to imagine how she does it.

The only other athlete like her that I can think of is Willie Gault who still trains with kids in their 20's and can still run a 10.7 100 (comparable to elite women and a shade slower than most men) at age 50.

The rapier wit of Germ!

But this was more of a broadsword decapitation in retrospect.

FJJ - who is the athlete you're referring to?

June 2, 2009  09:50 AM ET

My wife can bench press Dana Torres. You scoff? Who else besides Dana Torres has the muscle tone and control to hold the body position neccessary for another person to safely bench press them? Hmmm?

JRM was commenting on my Avatar. Dara Torres. USA Swimming, 40 something year old mom and recent Beijing Olympic champ. Won gold in the 80s as a teen. Unreal athlete.

Very few I am sure but I bet your wifes not nearly as limber.

Hey, I AM accused of being a cradle-robber almost every day. No, I'm not that much older than my wife. She's just that youthful looking. She admires Dana Torres and holds her in high esteem. When Dana was competing in the Olympics, my wife was standing in the den, shouting at the TV. Now, I do that sometimes (maybe too often), but, until then, never had my wife.

I saw a documentary on her during the olympics. She spends over $100,000 a year on nutritional and herbal supplements to "achieve the desired results."

By comparison, Michelle Obama will spend as much on shoes.

For now discussing the absolute wonder of nature that is Dara Torres, is much preferred to husky football, or their freakin stadium.

I am having a hard time understanding what has happened to U-dub.

Rumor has it that it all started with a shipment of helmets having the "W" upside down. Even though these were fixed (and therefore could not reproduce), the psychological impact has not waned. The entire university has an identity crisis.

And the results achieved are quite desirable.

......... Looks like this might be an "Alice's Restaurant" thread. That's an old Guthrie song where the song has nothing to do about anyone named Alice. Every once in a while, Guthrie throws in the line "Remeeber Alice? This is a song about Alice." Once every dozen posts or so, someone should remind us that this was to have been a thread about Washington. In the meantime, we can talk about hot female athletes, or Jabba the Weis, or string theory.

I prefer Serena Williams' results to Dara Torres'. Personal preferrence, that's all.

Hell, all we're gonna do is look at pictures. It's not an "either or" situation. Both are easy to look at. Both can be looked at.

Things get too slow on this thread, I could offer more Aggie jokes, but not without osddad's OK. He thinks I've been too tough on the critters. Kind of a "cruelty to dumb animals" offense.

At least our Aggie smack is in the form of good natured jabs and jokes. Have you noticed the absolute hatred between some in the USC crowd and some the Notre Dame crowd on the FN threads? Geez, talk about folks who just need to give it up and get over it!

I wish we had more Aggie representation on FN. They have their own little closed-loop cult-like CFB website. No need to come over here when they can be in a safe place where the world revolves around them. Safe from Aggie jokes.

<.....as he types more smack hoping to bait out an Aggie poster......>

Ah, a pygophilist! Shall we digress into discussing the definition of callipygian?
Alternately, do we accept the historical definition of steatopygia as confined to populations of khosians and pygmies with a 90 degree angle of back to buttocks, or, do we rebel, and as Americans are want to do, stretch the definition to allow for variances?

$100k is quite the commitment but I am sure its got to be a ton of sponsorship stuff too. All that help doesn't hurt but still just trying to keep up with that pace would be brutal.

The Obamas spend that much to go on a date. Now that's fiscal responsbility
