Mavericks high on Hill
Another interesting tidbit of information coming out of the NBA Combine in Chicago revolves around the Dallas Mavericks and potential interest they may have in Arizona power forward Jordan Hill. The rumor mill indicates that Dallas is seriously considering making a move to acquire the ultra athletic junior, and views him as exactly the type of tough, active rebounder they are missing in their frontcourt rotation at the moment. Brandon Bass currently fills that role for them, but they may not be able to keep him and still maintain ample cap space for 2010.

Nice... but a Scoring threat would be useful also. Antoine Wright just ain't gonna get it done, folks.

Keeping Bass would be a safer bet then getting a rookie. You won't really know what Hill can really bring to the team but you know what Bass can bring. I guess the Mavs are getting ready for Bass' departure. Bass will be getting paid more somewhere else and might have a bigger role in the new team he is going to. I'm going to miss the guy. One of the nicest player ever and very humble.

No doubt about this. I'll give Wright props for not playing bad D last season and he even scored at times but as others have said, a starting lineup with Wright means the team is in desperate need of better players.
That being said, I'm not as concerned about another shooter as I am about getting a TRUE center who can take over Dampier's job. We would be better off replacing Damp than replacing anyone else.
Bass may not grow to be an all star but the guy is fun to watch, has tons of energy and is continually getting better. I wouldn't move him out for someone else who you hope to do the same thing but better. The key word there is "hope".
NEEDS
1. Center
2. PG who can shoot
3. Josh Howard healthy or traded
4. outside threats
This move hardley helps the Mavs where they need it.

I would NOT stake my teams future on Hill-
I just am not seeing/hearing great things about him
- especially Dallas who's had to live through the Dampier era
-this kid may not be much more that THAT.....

It's a late pick and he can bang inside. Maybe a Chris Wilcox?
Mavericks need bodies though without Bass.

Given the number of point guards that will come out of this draft, Dallas should be able to help themselves at #22. Unless they can deal Dampier, a rook poward forward isn't going to help much.

He is gonna get drafted 5 or 6?!!!
This is gonna be a crazy draft with some absolute busts in the top and some good players that will slip through the cracks.

He had a decent run in the NBA and was serviceable.
However he was also drafted at 8 in 2002...Hill is more athletic but less fundamentally sound.

Dallas does NOT need a PG that can SHOOT! Kidd and Barea proved to be pretty productive. The Mavs do NEED to keep Bass though that should be a priority! Damp needs to go ASA! That guys should not even be in the NBA. Stack is coming off the books soon. Jason Kidd should stay. He's not going to take up 20+mil/year anymore. So, Damp = 11+mil/yr (13mil in 2011!!!) Stack = 7+mil/yr. Kidd should take about 10/yr....and Wright for 1mil/yr! He's well worth the value! Amare is injury prone and demands too much!! That be a waste of cap space!

why would any team with a low draft pick tell the world that they are high on someone?

Exactly my sentiments... even Blake Griffin won't have a significant impact next season. Big men usually need 2-3 years to establish themselves in this league. Greg Oden hasn't shown anything close to Bill Russell except they look the same in age.. and I haven't even mentioned Dark Milicic, Olowokando or Michael Sweetney...
If I was a GM I'd never draft big men... I'd rather pay the steep prize for proven power forwards and centers and use the draft picks at the 1, 2 and 3 positions... oh well its the Mavs - the same people that thought Jason Kidd is the next Derrick Rose.

He'll be long gone before the Mavs pick so I would assume there is a trade afoot.

Good point. Actually the rumors are they are a few teams in the top 10 looking to trade out. The Wizards are definitely one of them and Hill should be there at five considering the Kings should be in the market for a PG.
