Georgia will pay North Texas $975,000 to open the 2013 football season in Sanford Stadium -- the most UGA has ever guaranteed a visiting team and the latest example of the rising cost of scheduling anticipated easy victories. The price surpasses the $925,000 Georgia will pay New Mexico State for a Nov. 5, 2011, game in Sanford Stadium. Louisiana-Lafayette will get $875,000 for coming to Athens for a Sept. 4, 2010, game.

lol what a joke, sounds like something UF would do.. alls they do is play cupcakes...

take a look at the last 10+ years of their OOC schedule, you'll see what im talking about

North Texas isn't a "cupcake" when compared to some of Georgia's other opponents the past few years. At least North Texas is a Division 1A school, unlike GA Southern and Western Carolina.

June 2, 2009  03:41 PM ET

every team does this. some just more than others.

June 2, 2009  03:45 PM ET

North Texas has defeated an SEC team on their home field. Cupcake? Or coiled coral snake? Georgia better be prepared.

Not a cupcake? They were 1-11 last year, 0-7 in the freakin' Sun Belt Conference. I think their win was against one of the Denton area junior high schools. Does the Georgia score board accommodate three-digit scores?

svtjer, come on - at least let the UGa thread stay a UGa thread for more than 10 posts before you whack UF about scheduling. Restraint, my man, restraint.

Florida State is on Florida's out of conference schedule every year. Does your team have someone that is (used to be) that good year in and year out?

As a matter of fact, we play FSU every year (in conference for us).

This year we play Oklahoma, Next year we play Ohio State... those are 2 right off the top of my head.

I think Ohio State and Oklahoma must be making the southern rounds. We play Oklahoma (home and home) in 2 or 3 years, then Ohio State after that.

He should take some notes from Randy Shannon in the discipline department..

Every team does this, Auburn is paying 1,000,000 to play Tenn Tech or some b.s. team like that. UF does it, SC does it every game (the Pac 10). Teams play Norte Dame all the time...

June 2, 2009  06:17 PM ET

I know every team does this, but this article still cracks me up.

June 2, 2009  06:22 PM ET

The price of victory......

June 2, 2009  06:43 PM ET

I will play them for $500,000

I like it. We'll go anywhere, promise to lose, for like $500,000 or something. We need to come up with an institutional name. Would CM let us use Shrunken Head Institute of Texas?
