Can Raps keep Bosh & Marion together?

Another name that's being kicked around in this search is Chris Bosh, which is almost certain to be a red herring. Bosh is extremely happy with the success the Toronto Raptors enjoyed at the end of the season, and feels that Shawn Marion might be the piece they've been missing to evolve into a solid playoff team. Marion and his agent have had lengthy discussions with Raptors brass, and the feeling is mutual that they'll get something worked out. Don't expect them to even consider dealing Bosh this summer unless the Marion talks completely fall apart.

If Bosh insists they sign Marion before he commits he's doing the Raptors a great injustice... I mean c'mon... it's like Lebron asking the Cavs to give Szerbiak a huge contract... that's ridiclous... Marion's skills are best suited for the run and gun system and we all know that system gets alotta regular wins but no championships...even with that Marion will be 32 next season so he can't possibly keep up in the high Octane offense... so why on earth would want him on your team... it's like selling poison to your own people.... it's just not right.

From the looks of last season, Toronto needs more then just Bosh and Marion.

June 3, 2009  07:56 AM ET

Who cares about the Marion talks, shouldnt they be concerned with getting Bosh under contract...?

June 3, 2009  08:41 AM ET

Why is this even a question? The only question they need to ask right now is "Can you keep Bosh in Toronto"? Marion is all about the money. If he cares about winning a ring then he would go to the team that has the best chance of winning a ring. This guy is a free agent and he can go wherever he wants/ He is just using Toronto as a bargaining chip to get his stock up. It will be a very big mistake to give Marion a salary that is more then $10 million a year. He is not worth more then $10 million a year.

laughs at marions hes washed up

June 3, 2009  09:18 AM ET

Marion is gonna go to Cleveland...they were exposed by Orlando and now know they need a big 3 that can defend...LeBron goes to the 2 and Delonte to the bench where he belongs...

Forget Marion, go for Turkoglu...he'll be worth the 8-10 mil/yr for the Raps...

Who cares what Bosh says/thinks UNTIL he resigns...he's a follower and once LeBron & DWade decide to stay where they are, Bosh will too just like he did when he signed the 3 year extension the same time they did...he can't get massive money as a #2 guy like he can if he stays in T.O.

lol...you were all over the palce with your post.....

I agree that Turk would be an interesting piece- though I doubt
Orlando's gonna let him go-

Marion to the cavs? interesting- but I think they're going to try
and get a bigger (taller) player

as far as Bosh being a 'follower' - not sure how that's relevant
- he either stays for the $$ or leaves to try and play for a ring-
there's no leading or following- it's just what he wants to do

agree-
and I don't think even toronto is thinking of doing that for a 32 yo
who's production has been in steady declinie.....

June 3, 2009  09:45 AM ET

Let Marion go. As for Bosh, keep him for now, but if the Raptors tank it next season, get Bosh and his agent in a room and start working out a sign and trade.

June 3, 2009  09:47 AM ET

One player is not worth the contract he has with Toronto, the other's worth is too much for the contract he has with Toronto, therefore release Marion and trade Bosh to get something back since he is gone by this time next year....

June 3, 2009  09:54 AM ET

I could be wrong, but isn't Marion a free agent? If so, let him go. I agree paying him the price it would need to stay is too much. As for Bosh, use him and lose him if necessary.

June 3, 2009  09:57 AM ET

How funny if Bosh just stuck with Toronto. They can after all pay him more than any other team when push comes to shove, no?

Yup-
he's a FA
Point is the Raps need ALOT to get them to a team that MIGHT
compete for a title....ALOT
-Marion doens't put them even CLOSE to that point-
so his talents (though diminishing) aren't NNEDED there....
he would be best suited on a team that needs a little SOMETHING
to get them over the hump-
a team like SA, Portland....etc would be where his talents are
best suited....you cannot have Marion be your 2nd best player-
or your team is doomed

yup-
but all he has to do is look at KG and what loyalty got him for
10 years in Minny- one year past round one in the playoffs-

I NEVER begrudge young players for going for the $$$......
but he has TWO big contracts to go- and it's not like he'd
be losing 5 mil per year if he signs elsewhere.....more like 2
(which isn't peanuts) but I really think he'll want out

June 3, 2009  10:05 AM ET

are they serious? Bosh needs to be resigned and let the player who shoots jump shots granny style go.

June 3, 2009  10:21 AM ET

All true, but Toronto would kill their fan support by dealing him over the summer. Wait until about a month before the deadline and start working out a sign and trade to maximize his value.

I agree for the most part with the Bosh like Kg comparison. But it is somewhat KG's fault that team never was better than what they were. When you are a player and demand 21 mill a season then that kind of affects the salary cap and signing other players.

Not sure, but I think with the FA Cap Hold : TOR can sign Marion for 10m & use the left over 7m+ on another FA :

but again-
you're going to invest 10 mil PER...on a 30 year old who's stats
have been STEADILY declining since 2005.....
he averaged 13 pts last year and although a nice # of rebounds 8+
it was actually a career LOW for BOTH (other than his rookie year)

you don't pay full price for a depreciating asset-
NO ONE will pay 10 mil for him....
Toronto should ABSOLUTELY NOT feel pressured to sign him

but bosh next contract will be at roughly the same $$$
- so it'll be Bosh's fault as well when Toronto Management
can't pay a sidekick either

"Bosh is extremely happy with the success the Toronto Raptors enjoyed at the end of the season."---I think Bosh is probably a better player than a GM. They still don't have a center, and the roster is still full of players that should be coming off the bench.
