Cubs tiring of Zambrano's act

Five days after receiving a six-game suspension for "violent and inappropriate" conduct, Carlos Zambrano found himself in hot water again on Tuesday. But this time Zambrano is in trouble with Cubs management and his teammates rather than Major League Baseball because he blew off the team flight to Atlanta on Monday without permission. It was not known what his reason was for missing the departure. Zambrano arrived at the ballpark Tuesday afternoon and was summoned into manager Lou Piniella's office before the game for a meeting that lasted about five minutes. He wasn't in the clubhouse after the game as he is serving his six-game suspension. This isn't the first time Zambrano has ignored team rules, but the Cubs appear to be wearying of his act. He's expected to be fined for this latest incident and may be asked to apologize to his teammates.

I think Lou's going to show Carlos what "violent and inappropriate" actions really are. Lou is from the Billy Martin "Pitchers are barely human" school and he thinks all of them can be replaced.
This guy is a tool but a tool with that kind of arm is going to get away with murder.

What's Lou going to do to him, with his age he can't go 15 rounds with Big Z. Although Lou's belly would make a nigh impenetrable defense.

pay good money for front row seats to that.

as a cubs fan- zambrano doesn't bother me- but then again baseball it's my first love, or second, so I'm not as passionate about it as others.

Age never stopped Billy and Lou ain't gonna fight fair. He'll nail Big Z with a Louisville slugger from behind and then have a nice talk with him after he comes around.

True Billy was crazy, a different kind of crazy but crazy none the less. I don't think Lou's that insane you saw how slow he was getting out there when Zambrano go into with the umpire.

Could that be telling? Usually the manager dives headfirst to get between his 'star' and the ump. In this case, could it be Piniella leaving Zambrano out there to make a total horsesass out of himself in order to make the case to management, "Hey, this guy's more hurt than help."

I never got the idea that Lou was a big fan. If the guy was 22-5 every year on a Series winner, you deal with him. But if you're going to tread .500 or flame out in divisionals every year, do you really need to carry a raving maniac just because he has a good changeup?

It's probably menstrual.....

trade him to marlins

June 3, 2009  09:21 AM ET

i love big Z but i do get tired of the childishness he still has. He still has to grow up and that, after a large contract, shouldnt be happening..it should be DONE

When you look the other way for years at a players actions just because hes a good player, this is what you eventually get.

Ha! They going to go at it in a hotel elevator?

June 3, 2009  10:07 AM ET

This guy has to be the most childish athlete in all of sports. Grow up already you don't have to beat up the gatorade machine to show how mad you are.

June 3, 2009  10:09 AM ET

I would put money on Lou...

June 3, 2009  10:58 AM ET

Did you see Lou's press conference yesterday? With the amount of stuttering Piniella has been doing lately, it probably took all 5 minutes for Lou just to say "Carlos, you missed the flight here to Atlanta and that is against team rules. Don't do that."

The inmates run the asylum known as the Chicago Cubs. That's why Zambrano keeps getting more and more chances, and Soriano keeps batting lead off with an on base percentage just a hair over .300.

The TRUTH is looking forward to the first "dust up" with Carlos and Milton.
