Jim Balsillie hasn't decided what he would call his Hamilton-based National Hockey League club but assumes it would play in the Northwest Division in the Western Conference. The wannabe National Hockey League team owner filed a 38-page application for relocation of the Phoenix Coyotes in an Arizona bankruptcy court late Monday night.

i hope this goes through. seems dumb to not want an impassioned owner to run a franchise in a hotbed of the sport he's looking to run

Agreed

Why name the team before you get it? I agree with comment #1.

June 3, 2009  09:56 AM ET

When they say "wannabe hockey league team" are they refering to the Coyotes or Balsillie?

June 3, 2009  09:56 AM ET

by the way, I'm partial to naming the team the Hamilton Silly Balls!

Bring back the Hamilton Tigers!

June 3, 2009  10:16 AM ET

It makes sense to have a team in Hamilton play in the Western Conference. If they do get the team, how long before the fans and owner complain about that situation - I give it 1 year.

Let them play in the West, it's easier for the Wings to travel to Hamilton then Phoenix, they just have to go ice fishing on their day off instead of golfing.

If any of this business help discredit Bettman then please relocate that team. The quicker the better.

I think the other teams in the northwest division would have a pretty big beef about the situation too, seeing as there would be five teams spread across three time zones.

The Hamilton Hammers!

Dude, I thought the same thing! Then I thought Hammerheads sounded tougher, then realized how stupid that was, considering that Hamilton is nowhere near the ocean, etc, and finally decided I was an idiot and needed another latte... Hamilton Hammerheads indeed...

The midget will do everything he can to prevent Mr. Blackberry from ever owning this franchise. Although I agree, an impassioned owner would be wonderful.
Hamilton Smokers (I' m sure theirs a law against it).

June 3, 2009  01:08 PM ET

How about the Hamilton Homers

June 3, 2009  01:15 PM ET

Hamilton Hammers seems like a rather logical thing as they're in the big industrial area. I'm not quite sure how they'd display it on a jersey and not resemble the USSR flag.

June 3, 2009  02:42 PM ET

How about the Hamilton traffic jam...just try getting to a game there during rush hour on the QEW...
Nice avatar Torque1. Not sure what it has to do with sport...but nice all the same.

June 3, 2009  02:54 PM ET

How about the Hamilton Smoke Stacks. Or the Hamilton Tim Hortons

How about the Hamilton Dwarf Smashers?

I agree with The Spoon (# 6 comment). I second the motion for the Hamilton Tigers.
All in favor.....say "I". All in disagreement...say 'Nay'.
