Still no decision on McHale

The longer the Timberwolves go without a decision on Kevin McHale's future, the better the chance he will be back as coach next season. That's a logical assumption but not a foregone conclusion. If it were, there would have been no good reason to keep McHale away from this week's pre-draft workouts. David Kahn, the Wolves' new president of basketball operations, made that decision, seeking to avoid what he called a potentially awkward situation. Hired two weeks ago, Kahn also will make the call on McHale, and he still seems in no hurry to do so. The two had their second dinner meeting Tuesday night, but McHale's future with the team is far from certain.

SI, can you bring this story up when a decision is made? Does it have to be every other day? Is this really a story?

lol.....
I was going to say basicaly the same thing except-
even if the DO make a decision- does it really matter?
(aside from twolves fans of course)
- I mean is there another team in the league that is FARTHER
away from winning a title than Minny ?

I'm guessing Minnesota is putting the ball in McHale's court and forcing him to make his own decision about whether he wants to coach or not instead of having the new G.M. boss up and make his own decision.

Anyway, I would think McHale's going to wind up in some office gig instead of coaching this team next season.

Do not sleep on the Wolves next year...........

They this story keeps getting play even though everyone hates it, kinda like Pockerface by Lady Gaga.

This thread was dead in the water so I think few would object to an old school montage! Complete with some Stevie Ray Vaughn haha.

The redundancy of this story aside, I had thought previous news releases indicated that the owner, Glen Taylor, had given McHale the decision making on whether he stayed as coach or left. However, this article as well as several other recent articles seem to indicate that the president of basketball operations, David Kahn, now has the say on McHale's coach status. Anyway, I'm just idly curious on a trivial basketball issue.

Thanks for the memories Dynamic. Kevin McHale harkens back to a day where post game was more valued, the game was more fluid, there was more mid-range game, and it was understood that playing inside-out was more efficient. That was before the game became too reliant on isolations and three-point shooting.

In 1989, teams averaged 109.2 points per game and only attempted 6.5 three-point shots per game. In 2009, teams averaged 100 points, and attempted 18.1 three-point shots per game.
Yet, in 1989, teams attempted more field goal attempts (89 per game) at a higher percentage (48%). While in 2009, teams attempted 81 field goals per game and shot 46%.

regarding my knicks-
I would've agreed this time LAST year-
with Donnie- they are no longer a poorly run team-

We are on the way up- granted we have a long way to go-
but Donnie's started to purge Isiah's GARBAGE from our pores
- it is IMPOSSIBLE for us to be good this year- but starting NEXT
year I am VERY confident we'll be in the playoffs-

the clips ARE the worst- until their owner leaves- they are
hands down the most miserable franchise

actually I'd be willing to make a friendly wager that
the knicks have a better record than the wolves-
- granted they'll both be in the lottery again
(though Utah has our pick)

June 4, 2009  01:53 PM ET

at least as coach the best he can do is only give the Celtics 2 automatic wins next year. instead of handing them KG giftwrapped with a title.

June 4, 2009  03:32 PM ET

The only decision there should be right now, is who is going to replace McHale....he was one heck of a basketball player in his day, but he didn't have much of a go at being the GM. Way too many horrible decisions....heck he took the Wolves in the opposite direction.

The clips are pretty awful team as well, not much improvement!!
