In addressing the state of his franchise, Cavaliers majority owner Dan Gilbert announced his commitment to bringing a title to Cleveland. He said he met with General Manager Danny Ferry and coach Mike Brown all day on Wednesday as the organization begins to review the season and look ahead to the draft, free agency and next season. "We will win a championship in Cleveland, Ohio," vowed Gilbert, who thanked all the fans and all the Cavs and Q employees. "It will happen." Gilbert, saying the team was in the "break-even neighborhood" financially, pledged to do whatever it will take to win that title.

You gotta keep dreamin' ...

June 4, 2009  08:14 AM ET

Man... with all these wins and multiple playoff games they broke even? Wow... that will never happen in New York even with 23 or 32 wins.... big pimpin spend the gees....

June 4, 2009  08:20 AM ET

Wow. It's like KG guaranteeing championship in 2010 & 2011. If the Magic lose this year then they will guarantee next year and if the Lakers lose then they will guarantee. What's up w/ all these guarantees? It's like Cuban guaranteeing championship. There's one guy is this decade that guaranteed and his guarantee came true.

June 4, 2009  08:25 AM ET

so if I can read through the lines......
KG is being traded to the cavs ?

LOL, that's good man. :)

One major difference between his claim and KG, he didn't put a year on it. Maybe they will win a championship but it will take another 20 years? Then again, maybe they actually get all the right pieces with minor tweaking and make a run next year. Regardless, this can't be a lie as long as the Cavs still exist. He's being a salesman and telling people what they want to hear. What else to you expect him to say? :)

You will only win a championship when you wise up and give LeBron players who actually show up in the playoffs.

Until then, I hope you enjoy these 60 win seasons that ultimately end in disappointment.

The good news is that LeBron isn't leaving Cleveland anytime soon so that would give the General Manager (who I hope isn't Danny Ferry in the long run) enough time to figure it out.

Nothing is wrong w/ being competitive. You can be competitive w/out saying it and just by doing it. Mine as well tell all these NBA players and teams to say "We will win it all next year!". Just because somebody says it does not mean they will be the best. I say just shut up and let your game do the talking. It will hurt you less if you don't talk.

"My dedication to the franchise and to the city of ______ (enter your city here), is to win championships!"

That is a line that has been used by GM's, Coaches & Executive brass for the last 40 years. The only difference is it isn't after getting your ass handed to you in 6 games while you have the MVP, Coach of the Year, Best record in the League, Executive of the Year, Etc., Etc.,

Most people who know basketball knew there was a fundamental weakness in their frontline. Then to not make one move before the trade deadline using Wally or Pavlovic was utterly their demise. Then to barely use Pav, and KEEP Wally in for as long as Mike Brown did in game six (1 for 5, 1 Reb, 0 Dimes) in 14 Minutes is laughable.

I think Cleveland fans (not I) need more reassurance than that.

How could a team with Lebron not make profit? If I was Lebron I'd feel insulted... now if he was in NY the profits will pentaquadruple.... now that's 20 fold... everybody wins... the league, restaurants, hotels, pimps, tourism... you name it. I don't mean no hate but the truth is Ohio is too small for Lebron. His path has to go through the basketball mecca...

Even if he stays in Cleveland and magically builds a dynasty greedy Gilbert will sell it to some other country.

June 4, 2009  09:36 AM ET

Yes but just not this year!
Other teams will now get better as we all know.
Orlando will be on top for a while, Miami will once again rise to championship contention and if the Raps can make good off season moves they to can make history but the Cavs are a long way to go.

sounds like an angry boston fan because the average magic beat the under-average boston celtics.

You my friend are right on the money. When you think of the players that Ferry has passed on, it's scary to imagine him trying to build a championship team.

I agree with that. I am a huge cavs fan yet I did not like mo williams predicting the cav's would win the series with how they have been playing. You can't rely on lebron james, who was averaging 40 points a game, when the rest of the team that helped get them in that position was miserable. To assure everyone that you are going to win this or win that, like Kevin Garnett did, is immediately setting yourself up for failure. Also, it will make you look like a dumbass if you don't make it.

Doubtful. "Average?" And that's why Orlando is in the finals...

Both Orlando and Boston had good teams this year, wise up.

If you have nothing to add to the conversation, just go on the ad hominem, that's the newbie way.

maybe you don't realize I was replying to someone in a sarcastic manner because they called the magic average. How about you read before you type.

There is no way the Cavs couldn't look slightly dumbass after all the accolades and hardware they took home...not to mention a less than stellar showing of basketball knowledge by their overconfident fans.
