Leafs may end up with Schenn

Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke has set his sights on John Tavares, but his secondary target at the NHL draft later this month may be Brandon Wheat Kings center Brayden Schenn. Burke has made it known that he will do everything in his power to move up from the No. 7 slot, which the Leafs hold, to a higher pick in order to draft Tavares. However, if that plan doesn't materialize -- and there have been reports that the New York Islanders will use their No. 1 pick to take Tavares -- Burke may still attempt to move up into the top four or five in the draft in order to get a chance at selecting Schenn, the brother of the Leafs' young defenseman Luke Schenn.

If there is anything to good hockey bloodlines, Brayden will fit in well with Toronto. All though, it will put an enormous amount of pressure on him and may even affect Luke's game by playing big brother.
However, Travares seems a bit of a reach so if Burke can make something out of that #7 pick then I'm sure the Toronto faithful will be raising their glasses in salute.
That being said, with Brayden signed...the familiar toast of 'cincin' would likely be replaced with, 'Schenn-Schenn' for years to come.

Indeed

Why do they make this sound like a bad thing. Brayden's stock has been steadily rising over the last 4 weeks at least and reports are indicating that he is a solid choice. It can't be bad to unite the Shenn brothers on a team in a rebuilding stage. However the T & R staff throw in the "end up with," in the headline, what's that all about? Everyone knows they want Tavares but really, come on. Give the kid a chance. 22 days until the draft, how many more stories of Burke moving up in the draft will T&R report? I am guessing 12.

If they could land Schenn, I would be a happy Leaf-er.

Schenn wont go 7, he will go 5 or 6.

June 4, 2009  11:40 AM ET

Everyone knows Brayden Schenn is better than John Tavares anyways. This is all part of Burke's master plan. Get all the other GMs thinking you desperately wanna move up to get Tavares when all along they sit and wait for brother Schenn.

I just wanna know what Momma and Poppa Schenn ever did to deserve the tragedy that is two sons potentially playing pro hockey for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

If if if. Anything can still happen right up until the draft.

The Leafs did move up a slot or two last year to get Luke..., I say move up this year and get Brayden. I am not sold on Tavares being the player he was junior..., look at Stamkos' first couple of months. Brayden would more than welcome the opportunity to play in Toronto and with his older brother on the blue line, all the better.

Do it Burke.

You are a delusional fool.

Luke Schenn has proven absolutely nothing yet other than because the next in the long line of marginally-above-average-talented players that Toronto feeds it's fans instead of icing legitimate contenders.

He will be gone by the 7th pick...
The Leafs need to move up to the top 3 and grab the real prize of the draft...

YES! This is what I want the Leafs to do - focus on getting Brayden Schenn and, if possible, another of the top 15 (preferably Scott Glennie or Ryan Ellis)

I would be very happy to see the Leafs draft Duchene - I have a suspicion he might turn out to be a better player long term than Tavares. My top choices for the Leafs to draft are Schenn and Duchene.

Both perfectly fit the profile of player I like to see on the Leafs.

After Schenn and Duchene my preference is, in order, Cowen, Kane, Ellis, Glennie.

...and wot's wrong with Ashley and Mary-Kate? Pretty strange if the Cansucks pay out big for both of 'em though. The Burke 'magic' hasn't arrived in hogtown yet - who knows maybe it won't this time.
