07:07 AM ET 06.04 | The ladies of New York can all breathe a sigh of relief: Derek Jeter isn't engaged - yet. We caught up with the Yankee shortstop before his team bested the Texas Rangers on Tuesday and asked about the rumors he's set to wed "Friday Night Lights" actress Minka Kelly, with whom he was reportedly caught ring-shopping earlier this year. "The what?" Jeter asked incredulously. "Engagement rumors with who? I have not heard that."

This is as bad as the Tom Brady stories about his wife being pregnant and all the other ones that no one cares about. T & R, aren't there sport stories out there?

Given that the members here are almost overwhelmingly men...shouldn't we get a picture of Minka instead of Jeter? Bad job FN.

Well, I guess this is the thread today ... it's not about sports, so no one can complain about no one talking about sports on a sports thread! Right???

Yes, but it just ruins the whole spirit of hijacking a thread don't you think?

Beckett looking stronger and stronger as the season goes on. Lester finding his groove, things are looking up. Now, if they could get some production out of the DH position.......

I wish Dice-K could find his groove. I'd feel a little bit better then.

He threw better last time out. I'm interested to see what Smoltz has left in the tank. He is pitching well in the minors and is traveling with the team. If he is pitching well, either Wakefield is coming out of the rotation or Penny is going to get traded. With the bullpen situation where it is now, they have no need for anyone in it, so I see Penny getting traded, soon.

If Dice-K doesnt get it going would the Sox go after Glavine?

No, they have too much young pitching in the minors that would be better than Glavine. I know Glavine is from Billerica, which is close to Boston, but I don't see them having any interest in him. He may end up back on the Mets, they need pitching and Glavine is pitching decently right now and wouldn't cost a lot.

Right now, they have:

Bowden and Buchholz in the minors. Smoltz on his way back from the DL and Masterson who should be a starter. All 4 of those would start before Glavine would be brought in which is why I see Penny getting traded, soon. Penny would do well in the NL right now, the depth of pitching is pretty bad all around baseball and someone would pick him up since he would only cost a couple of million for the rest of the season.

Didn't think I'd ever hear those 2 words in the same sentence.....gotta love the "Don't pick up hitchhikers" sign on Rte 3 as you drive by the prison.

I would not be sorry to see Penny go.

I don't understand why we are all so quick to want Penny shipped out. He's 5-1 and has had 3 or 4 very good starts in a row. I think his value will be highest at the deadline when a team on the bubble is looking for pitching. Let's be patient, Sox fans.

I think he is pitching well too, but he'd be the first to go in a trade from the major league roster because of his contract.
