Avalanche cleans house

In April, Avalanche president Pierre Lacroix fired general manager Francois Giguere, causing many to infer the organization was repudiating the approach of having a former accountant in the position. On Wednesday, amid additional housecleaning that included the firing of head coach Tony Granato and his staff, the Avalanche announced that Giguere's successor is another former accountant. The choice, Greg Sherman, has been in the organization for 13 seasons but has no direct hockey background. He previously worked as an assistant, first under Lacroix, then Giguere. Sherman's title under Lacroix was assistant to the general manager, and that was tweaked to assistant GM under Giguere. Sherman's primary duties involved contract negotiations and salary cap management.

Didn't you know that Penguins don't crow and only vultures pick at carcasses?
Why you feel it's necessary to take a shot at the Avalanche I have no idea. That organization has had some very classy moments and players.
Seeing that you apprear to be a Pens fan, it never ceases to amaze me how some of you enjoy dumping on some other franchise. Particularly when the only reason your team has had any success at all is due to the fact that they were bottom out losers for so many years and seem to recycle that formula on a regular basis.
Show a little class when you have been fortunate enough to get lucky through the draft...Of course perhaps you and other fans should realize that due to a lack of class in 1984, even Super Mario refused to put on the Penguin jersey and shake hands with the GM on draft day.

I wasn't taking a "shot" at the Avalanche...I have always enjoyed watching that franchise. I was making a point that there is complete turmoil over there right now, and the team's base is very unstable. I have no ill will towards the Avs...calm down.

I love that his job was "tweaked" from "Assitant to the General Manager" to "Assistant General Manager"... I smell a Schrute.

Well your opening comment certainly apprears to be a 'shot'.
If it wasn't then no problem. Thanks for elaborating.

Who will be the next coach? Didn't Roy turn it down?

June 4, 2009  11:38 AM ET

It certainly needs cleaning. I have seen it!

They also fired the video coordinator. The guy that works the big screen. What did he ever do?

True enough....no problem man.

As a fan of a team that is the epitome of losing (see the Pirates), I think the Avs are doing it right. A fresh, clean start at the top can only lead to a better future IMHO.

If you'd seen the video screen at the Pepsi Center and how they completely fail to make the crowd excited, you'd understand. That truly is an awful product.
