T. Boone Pickens: OU is team to beat

Over the years, billionaire booster T. Boone Pickens has invested quite a chunk of change in making Oklahoma State into a competitive football program. That doesn't mean he's blind to what the Cowboys are up against. "They're going to have a good football team," Pickens said Wednesday before a speech in Oklahoma City. " Oklahoma's going to have a good football team. I'd say both schools. No question, OU. OU's got to be the front-runner for the BCS."

let's see how their new receivers adjust to game situations first...

I just looked on the website of Okla. State's new football stadium upgrades and WOW!!!!! If i was a recruit and was looking around...they would be at the top of my list!!!!!! It is an amazing facility and will def. secure top recruits!!!!

June 4, 2009  09:29 AM ET

Now all they have to do is win...9-4 is good for them but I am sure 10-3 would really set things up right...being a Gator fan i want Georgia to win vs okla. state just to help booster the SEC and their standing when we play them but i hope Okla. State beats texas and OU.......the SEC might be the toughest conferene top to bottom but i feel the BIG 12 SOUTH is the toughest division in football last year....texas, OU, osu, texas tech, Texas a &m, and poor baylor...they will never win the big 12......!!!!! They are just slugging it out!

June 4, 2009  09:31 AM ET

people are talking about the BIG -10 adding teams to make it 12 and add a conference championship..YES DO IT!! but it wont happen! one guy said you should put ohio state vs michigan in separate divisions but have them play every year.....i think that would take away some of the rivalry...play at the end of the season then meet again in the conferene championship...got to keep them together!!!! I think RUTGERS should go....they want to be all about football....and the big 10 delivers that and they hate that their basketball team gets pounded in the big east....move them on over!!!!!!

T. Bone knows investments. T Bone doesn't know football. Clearly a guy who loves the State of Oklahoma. He must not have been watching UF, USC, Texas lately. OK will be lucky to make a BCS bowl game.

If he goes to a BCS bowl he'll just lay another one of these

June 4, 2009  09:39 AM ET

boone is an idiot! how is it that OU is a team to beat? everytime they go to a bowl game they lose. it should be Texas!!!!!!

June 4, 2009  09:47 AM ET

Um, Boone is a wildcat investor. When he is successful, he strikes it rich. When he doesn't, he bombs. OSU would not report on the balance of the hedge fund that Boone donated to the school when oil dropped from $150 down to $40. If you google the story, you will see how close the stadium came to foreclosure because with the decline in the value of the fund, the athletic department was getting nervous trying to make the $1mil/month interest payment on the stadium expansions. They stopped building on the new athletic compound, etc because of the drop in prices. Let's put it this way, Boone pushes alternative fuels, but his hedge fund is riddled with oil. The guy is a nut case. If Warren Buffet made a prediction, I would listen to him, but then again, he knows his area of expertise.

I know this wud bring out the Horns... I see the smoke coming out of FJJ's ear... But I agree with you.. IMO the Horns are the team to beat and they should have got the nod last year as well.... OU is going to be gud as well but they have to replace that line..

Dont knock Baylor.. They are going to better than A&M and Tech the next 2 years cuz of that QB

What I bet the web site did not feature was the town. Stillwater, OK is damn near as ugly as Lubbock, TX. Both schools should move. I grew up just on the Texas side of the Red River in a town named Wichita Falls. If challenged, I might or might not be able to name 10 places in the U.S. uglier than my home town - but two of them would be Lubbock and Stillwater.

Yeah, Baylor's on the rise. Tech won't be anywhere close to what they were last year. And A&M's football team is the most hilarious Aggie joke out there just now.

That said, I'm gonna make Okie State and Baylor come on the field and play us before I just give either of them the Big XII South championship. There may be a couple of folks in Norman who feel the same way.

2008 is over. What happend is what happened. Bring on 2009.

Well Duh! Your rival and usual winner of your conference should be the team to beat.

The Big 12 South was a tough and exciting division. However, look at their bowl record.

No, he is a billionaire nut case that is self made. Most billionaires are like that.

He donated to his alma mater so I applaud him for that.

You said it! Unfortunately, UT fans just can't handle that reality.
