The surgery Brian Westbrook will undergo Friday morning in Baltimore is a serious procedure, according to a source close to the situation. "I'm just concerned that it is being underplayed," the source said. "It's a lot more than a little spur and it's much more than the knee arthroscopy he had (in February)." Both a team source and Westbrook's agent Todd France downplayed the significance of the surgery, which the team announced late Wednesday night. "It's just some bone spurs," France told ESPN.com Wednesday.

That's a huge blow for the Eagles if he's not good to go.

yep. Too bad. I was hoping the Eagles would have a great season, whip the Boys, Giants, and Skins off the map. then lose to the Steelers in the SB.

Strange thing is that the Steelers have never played well against the Eagles. Been a weird thing since forever. Like the Colts, went 40 years between wins in the Steel City.

who is the back up Rb? McNabb will be in a world of hurt with out Westbrook to help keep defenses honest. Hard to throw when defenses drop 8 into coverage.

Relax, the source is the janitor at the hospital. anybody ever see Scrubs? The janitor is the dumbest guy on the show.

They got Lorenzo Booker and a bunch of other guys, but I don't think they have an established number 2 with Correll Buckhalter gone... I think I read that the team has been talking to Deuce Staley and Ricky Watters....

Maybe they should wait until the only one who will know if it is serious or not performs the surgery..And that isn't his agent or a team spokesmen.

The kid they drafted (McCoy) is supposed to be a stud. If he picks up the offense he should be okay esp if the upgrades to the O-Line payoff... They also are 23 mill under cap. I know they penny pinchers but there are a couple of guys out there if signed to the right deal could come in and be back up...Foster, Dunn, Edge...I know these guys are old and not productive but they might be able to get the job done sharing carries with McCoy for a few weeks...if Westbrook cant go. If Westbrook is out a long period of time then the Eagles are cooked.

without him the iggles are sunk

That would be the best idea. Right now, it is just minor surgery and BWest is expected to be ready at worst by the 3rd preseason game. But there is a pretty good young talent in McCoy in the waiting as well as some nice veteran rb's available in FA.

hmmm I have a problem trusting "sources" I can say anything & claim a "close source" told me so I'm going to wait for an offical word. But he it's still early he's what 29-30 so he can heal plus they have a stud young buck Shady from Pitt by way of Harrisburg I saw him run all thru High School & remember him when he was young playing youth B-Ball & even then McCoy was shinning! so I think the Birds will be ok & Westbreezy will be back 100% so calm the hell down damn!

June 5, 2009  09:23 AM ET

Why didn't he have the surgury earlier this year? - think he's trying to avoid training camp?
