Report: Celtics shopping Allen, Rondo

Off the record, we have several sources telling us that Ray Allen is, indeed, on the block. It's easy to make the leap, as the Celtics have managed to develop some nice young talent around their Big Three while also managing to win a championship. They might have even repeated had Kevin Garnett been healthy. It's not a stretch to say the Celtics would part with Allen, who has an ending contract next season, if they could add another top young player to the mix. On the record we have an added wrinkle - one that we thought to be highly unlikely until we found it reported with a quote attributed to Celtics GM Danny Ainge. It seems the Celtics are willing to package Rajon Rondo with Allen to make the right deal happen.

i had expected the C"s to trade Allen since they need to get a younger player, but rondo as well? if such a trade was made they'd have to get a legit superstar back...who??? Chris paul? dwayne wade? i think it would be foolhardy to trade rondo AND allen unless they get james, wade or kobe, and none of those three will be leaving their teams, but it would be an interesting scenario tho if allen was to leave and they get a younger player in the backcourt who can shoot the three and maybe carry the team a lil bit, allowing the truth and the ticket to take a seat

Did Garnett know about this when he was guaranteeing 2 more titles?

June 5, 2009  07:43 AM ET

what would teams offer to get allen and rondo? are the celtics planning to get Paul? williams? or arrang wa trade with mavs to get howard AND kidd?

June 5, 2009  07:47 AM ET

howard and Kidd with Celtics....now THAT would be something....rondo's trade value would have risen considerably beacue of his performances in the playoffs nd the fact that with KG out and Paul pierce not playing to his best and allen blowing hot and cold, ROndo was the player that was keeping the celtics strong....i am a bulls fan thru and thru but i'd hate to see rondo leave the c's

June 5, 2009  08:03 AM ET

who the hell in their right minds wanna trade rondo. i would not take any PG in the league over him period( a walking trible double and a stifling defender) AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH who made up this bull crap tarde rumor.

June 5, 2009  08:05 AM ET

PLEASE GOD, GIVE THE KNICKS RONDO AND ALLEN!

June 5, 2009  08:12 AM ET

I don't know, Rondo's pretty tough. maybe he'll end up with a team
that's younger and get fewer opportunities.

June 5, 2009  08:15 AM ET

Ray Allen to Orlando?

If the Knicks trade Ray Allen and Rondo, they're officially done.

June 5, 2009  08:15 AM ET

If they traded Rondo for anything less than Chris Paul or Deron Williams, then I don't kow that I'd be able to be a Celts fan anymore. It still sucks watching Chauncey Billups and wondering what would have happened if the Celtics had kept him for even a full season.

June 5, 2009  08:15 AM ET

Celtics* it's early at the office.

Rondo is NOT the Rondo of the playoffs for the long haul. Exhibit A: Jerome James with Seattle years ago and countless others who can exploit matchups when the gameplan is simplified.

They dont get a superstar in this deal. I see them bringing back maybe a Michael Redd or a great player, but not elite, franchise level. Josh Howard might make some sense. Rondo will be a better than average point guard, but he will never be as good as Parker, Williams or Paul. Imagine those players with teh Celtics these last two years....A trade for one of them (least likely Parker because of his champs pedigree) might work...

Maybe even Artest and Brooks for Rondo and Allen...Nahhh, there is a lot of potential in that Rondo/Allen though. Lots will be asking about those two

Chauncey was a piston not a celtic.

June 5, 2009  08:31 AM ET

but speaking of the celtics, id say the pistons are the wild card for that trade. 1st rounder(s), sheed wallace, sign and trade Rip?

lol....
you really think an OLD allen and a pg who cannot shoot
is enough to bring back any of the TOP FIVE talent in the league ??
ROTFL

I mean come on.....
Allen will be GOONE after the year and you're basically saying you'd
be trading Rondo for Wade STRAIGHT UP ......LOL

June 5, 2009  08:42 AM ET

I hope this isn't true or the Celtics will have joined the "Moron" list along with the Pistons, and my beloved and lowly NY Knicks.

how bout you learn what team the men your talking about actually play for

LOL, that was the first thing that went through my mind. He is guaranteeing titles and doesn't even know who will be on the court. For all we know KG could get traded!

June 5, 2009  08:48 AM ET

i'd trade Rondo for Chris Paul............lol

Ray Allen is money in the clutch, but it's a business and he has a stupid contract.

Nah... Rondo's not needed in the big apple. A point guard that can't hit threes and the mid range jumper won't fare well in D'Antoni's system.... on the other it will be paradise for Ray Allen.
