Pavel Datsyuk walked out of Mellon Arena without a limp Thursday night, after having spent a good 90 minutes practicing in the morning. The Wings are confident he is days from returning and might play as soon as Game 5. "He's close," general manager Ken Holland said. "We'll hope for Saturday."

Yeah, now that the Pens are making a series of it. He will not be 100%

The Wings should have let Abdelkader play and ride the hot hand instead of sticking Draper back in there. Regardless of Draper's talent level, you can't bench a young player with an extremely hot stick with a 38 year old with nagging injuries at this point. At any rate, I ain't complaining....brand new series!

Are the Pens fans still squawking about the officiating?

June 5, 2009  09:09 AM ET

Is it the same kind of squawking when Babcock complained to the press after game 3 that the Pens had ONE more power play than they did?

I haven't seen Pens' fans complaining more than any other fans . Do you actually have facts to back up anything you say or is it all conjecture?

It's just killing you that the Pens have tied the series isn't it?

Yeah, that was a tough call. Abde is hot, but the Wings also needed faceoff wins.

Hoping he can play? If he was healthy enough, wouldn't he have played last night?

That's the way I am looking at it...At this stage of the season, if a player is close to 100% (especially the team's leading scorer and captain), then he'll be on the ice. If after four games of the finals said player is still not playing, then he isn't healthy enough to return this series.

He pretty accurately said that it was a game of special teams, and the team that won had one more than his team. I didn't hear him going off about the "extra" powerplay, which one would understand him doing.

That said, he is talking about things he shouldn't be (I don't have the heart to call it whining or complaining). Last year he took the high road the majority of the time. This year he is talking about the Crosby marketing machine and Crosby going headhunting. Don't like it.

And the officiating isn't helping either team, it's just plain bad officiating.

As for Datsyuk, I was kind of expecting him to pull a Willis Reed for game 5. Him taking the warmup in Mellon takes a little charm out of it, but he should give the team and crowd a surge at the Joe. Even series, the Pens held serve. It's not a series until...

Sounds about right, except Lidstrom is the captain.

The Pens are making it a series after all. Congrats to the Pens for a great win.

What is wrong with me this morning....besides the several hours of post game celebration last night. Thanks...

Thanks Dave...oh and by the way, you are welcome for the Pirates sweeping the Mets this week! Haha...

For his sake he'd better be 100%. Because if his injury is what everyone thinks (broken foot) no amount of tape or brace is going to help you when you have to turn fast and then have a 200lb man check you into the boards.

Every time they show Bill McCreary or Bettman I die a little inside.
It is a good thing the Wings aren't playing the Capitals or Babcock's head would have exploded by now with Ovechkin and his special brand of "hits".

June 5, 2009  09:44 AM ET

Brutal, brutal five minute stretch. Those last two goals...what a passing clinic by the Pens. Those were fantastic plays.

So we had the good with the bad last night: we had to listen to Bettman, but they couldn't talk to him long because they needed to get to the promo for "Fanarchy." I am getting sick of Versus's self promos during broadcasts, but this one was entirely well timed.

June 5, 2009  09:45 AM ET

Is Hossa also out, I haven't seen him yet in the finals, lol. Pavel will play game 5. Good series so far. The officiating has not been great, but has been equally bad on both sides so no one should be complaining. Crosby and Malkin are starting to find a little bit of room, that is not good news for the Wings.

lol...I can't help but laugh every time they show McCreary. Every intermission I pray he will come out the next period wearing a long black trenchcoat and a U.S. Marshal badge.

Get real! This site was chock full of whining Pens fans (redundancy alert!) after games 1 & 2.

I don't care who wins the Cup, Skippy. Time to get over yourself.
