He does want to coach? Good for him. I think he just wants to keep working in the League, and this was the only option he had.

The argument I see is that McHale has made bad decisions as GM which has nothing to do with his coaching abilities. Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes, Kevin Love (to name a few) have already declared they want McHale to return.
