Hansbrough, Lawson rising on draft charts?

Several high ranking personnel people are telling HOOPSWORLD that we have far too many unproven guys ranked too high and that we are not giving enough consideration to those players in this draft class that are proven - pointing specifically to Tyler Hansbrough and Ty Lawson as players that will go much higher than expected. The point most talent evaluators were making is that when push comes to shove NBA teams still draft winners over prospects and that assuming Hansbrough and Lawson drop into the late teens and twenties might be foolish given the NBA's track record for drafting proven collegiate talent over bright young stars, especially those teams that are one player away from serious compitetion they are more likely to go with guys that played deep into March and April.

Considering the lack of depth in this years draft, Tyler might go higher than most predict because teams pretty have an idea of what they are getting.

Teams have been drafting based on potential but this year's crop is lacking.

Wasn't there a thread earlier this week saying Lawson was dropping like a dress on prom night?

lol....yes

As Far as Tyler-
just judging by 'similar' talent that's gone recently......love last year
I actually agree with the T&R- he likely will go in the mid-teens

I like Lawson alot- can't shoot- but that can be taught- if he works
on it....he's also short- but does have a solid body- and his
god-given QUICKNESS cannot be taught.
Also he's run a 'pro-style' offense in college (and won)

LOL, I thought that I was hallucinating. Next week Tyler will be dropping, then Rubio. I swear these articles are just wastes of space sometimes.

they are- but they serve their purpose- to start up conversation
- You know in an hour or two this thread will be on either how
LA & Kobe 'suck' or how Bosh is 'soft'........

As I am reading this, I am thinking Telfair and I am not sure that is a good thing.

Tyler Hansbrough= BUST!!!! trust m, memba they said the same thing bout Adam Morrison

The NBA draft is all about potential

telfair would be a good comparison-
BUT
Lawson actualy played against good College competition
and was arguably the best player on the court most games
Telfair played against BOYS in HS- probably 3/4 of which
didn't even play COLLEGE ball......

And THAT is why the 1 year rule is so great-
we would've seen Telfair actaully compete

But 'bust' is such a relative term
if he plays 8 years in the league- averages 6 & 6
and is drafted top ten......YES bust-
but if he has same stats & is drafted in 2nd round- he's not ???

- that's why good teams have good GM's-
if you take him top ten- you're a MORON
if you get him late 1st/early 2nd - you're smart

the kid has work ethic and will scrap- he's a PERFECT guy to
come off the bench for you........if he's drafted to be that
he will play for 10 years.....if he's taken #3- he'll be out of the league when his contract is up

June 6, 2009  11:22 AM ET

Damn it, Hllywd's right again. Hansbrough and Earl Clark are my sleepers in this draft. There will also be more more players than most people think that will become integral 'pieces' in this draft.

June 6, 2009  11:34 AM ET

Hansbrough should be the 3rd power forward taken in this draft. Jordan Hill will probably go 1st, and at #14, I have Clark going to the Suns.

Of course Tyler is moving up draft charts... when you're expected to go in the 2nd round, you really got nowhere to go but up. He's still going to be terrible. Christian Laettner is going to look like a superstar after Tyler hits the NBA.

Ditto lol

There's something to be said about acquiring a polished product -- i.e. a college player. So many teams draft for "upside" but the truth is, many of these high school players never develop. Nene was thought to have great upside when he was drafted. Eight years into his pro career he barely has an offensive game. Tyson Chandler, ditto. Eight years in and lobs are his entire offensive repertoire. Even Dwight Howard, great as he is athletically, has no offensive game outside 5 feet. This, 5 years into his pro career. Tim Duncan coming into the NBA after playing 4 years in college had much more offensive game his first year than Howard now. The point is, the NBA keeps drafting young kids for "upside," but the NBA is not a place to learn. They have to win games NOW. Coaches do not have time to teach. And players in the off-season really don't dedicate themselves to developing new phases of their game, so now you have a generation of young big men with very limited basketball skills in the NBA.

would love it if lawson fell to the 2nd round and the knicks pick him. having two spark players in the team would be great. lawson and nate

Tyler Hansbrough needs to go to teams that are good and need good hard nose players. lakers, hornets, blazers, cavs, bulls, heat, rockets.
