Pens keeping Crosby, Malkin apart

09:46 AM ET 06.06 | It's doubtful the Penguins' Dynamic Duo will play together full-time under Dan Bylsma. Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, with 15 and 14 playoff goals respectively, have surpassed the combined mark of 28 set by Vancouver's Pavel Bure (16) and Trevor Linden (12) in 1994. And it was Malkin who set up Crosby for a pivotal goal on a two-on-one in the second period of Thursday's 4-2 victory in Game 4. Still, the Penguins coach said it would be difficult to keep them together all the time.

Detroit has no answer for the two headed monster! I agree to keep sid and mean gene on seperate lines. But I also think they should be put on the ice together in situations like after a penatly kill.

Once Datsyuk comes back they will have someone to put on Malkin. So far they have had Zetterberg on Crosby but no real shutdown man on Malkin. Also once Drapper starts to get to full health, he should improve their PK and so will Datsyuk.

On an unrelated issue, I heard that Peter Zezel died of a blood dis-order, does anyone know anymore?, what kinda blood dis-order?

Detroit better get their PK in order and start winning some Face-offs, Datsyuk should help to lighten the burden to some degree!

I hope Datsyuk and Malkin are matched up against each other. Then the NHL will see Geno is the unamiou leauge MVP. Zetterberg has done a decent job against Sid. I mean he did save two goals but putting his hand over the puck inside the crease. I dont think wings fans give Zetterberg enough credit.

I'm not so sure that Datsyuk is going to be 100% healthy when he comes back. He's missed 4 games already. Detroit is in panic mode and rushing to get him back. He won't be fast enough to keep up with Malkin.

Rushed him? He's sat for the last 6 games, they talked about him coming back for game 3! He practiced with the team before hand, and did the pregame skate for four, the decision to not play was his. Lastly, I don't think Detroit is in panic mode, they played six bad minutes in game four, they were tied with a much tougher Anahiem team 2-2. Detroit just needs to focus on what THEY do best and stop worrying about what Crosby or Malkin are going to do. They can't score if they never touch the puck.

If you listen to 97.1 the ticket. Wings fans are in panic mode. Ozzy is the most overrated goalie. He benifits from a great system. I cant wait till Brooks Orpik crushes Datsyuk. Then we will see how healty he realy is.

Pens need to beat Detroit in Detroit they had problems with it last year and then protecting their goal at home. Game 6 ended in Pittsburgh last year remember that.

I want the Pens to win. God I do but Detroit kicked our tail in Detroit. And we did in Pittsburgh to them. Not a good sign.

Tonight is a must win for the Pens. If we do not win here now we most likely if a game 7 happens in Detroit win there.

If Datsyuk was ready for game 3 don't you think he would've played? I mean its only the Stanley Cup Finals, no need to hurry I guess. A much tougher Anaheim team? That is very laughable. Six bad minutes is oviously all it takes to lose a game. Detroit is starting to look a little fatigued from their long playoff run and starting to commit a few stupid penalties. They can't afford to do that with their PK.

Agreed. The winner of Game 5 after at 2-2 tie in the Stanley Cup final usually wins. I think its 14 out of 19 times that happened.

Why rush Datsyuk back for him to get hurt and not be available at all? Come on now. If Malkin or Crosby was out with the same injury would you honestly want them to come back fast, hurt themselves again, and not be able to play at all during the series, or even the small possibility of next year? Didn't think so. Live to fight another day if you have to.

Also, Anaheim was a very tough team. Let's see an Eastern team that made the playoffs that's more physical then a Western Team that made the playoffs. You probably won't. Only reason why Penguins aren't as tired as the Wings are is they didn't deal with two teams who got physical. If Penguins and Ducks played that same exact series then followed it up by playing the Blackhawks the same way, it'd probably been a done swept deal for the Wings. I don't even think the Penguins would have made it past the Ducks actually. The Ducks were only the Eighth seed by number, not skill. They kicked in when they need to, and almost disposed of the Top Two Western Contenders, to fall short in game 7.

This is true. Pavel is not 100%. He won't be what the Wings faithful are hoping for on the ice tonight. In fact he may be a detriment. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

June 6, 2009  05:43 PM ET

Even Datsyuk at 70 or 80% is better than not at all. I dont think he will be able to keep up with Geno. He is gonna need to be at his best to do it.

June 6, 2009  05:55 PM ET

Babcock inferred that they probably shouldn't have practiced between games 3 and 4. Those legs needed to rest. One step is all it takes.

But you really have to credit both teams for giving us a Finals that's living up to what a Finals matchup should be. This is some exciting hockey and I wouldn't want it any other way. These Finals games may go down as some of the best.

The refs need to get it together. Too many men and offside non calls (with the linesman right there) did the Wings in, the last two games. Both non-calls lead to Pens goals. It's tough enough to beat the opposing team, but beating a league that wants to see the Stanley Cup move around to other cities is tougher yet. But the Pens have stepped it up and deserve the credit. Don't you just love a good fight! May the best team win... and they will.

And by the way, ppl; a little razzing is fun but sportsmanship it important. The sun will come up tomorrow and the players get to keep their millions. After all, it's a game for our entertainment. Enjoy.

You two play nice because "I AM THE WARRIOR -I AM THE WARRIOR" !!!

June 6, 2009  07:53 PM ET

Maybe Zetterberg can put his hand over the puck in the crease again.
