According to two sources with knowledge of the situation, neither Kurt Rambis nor his representative has negotiated potential terms of an offer. And while the Kings appear poised to do so, those potential discussions might not occur until the series against Orlando ends.

A rebuilding team like the Kings is the right team for Kurt Rambis.

The last time he coached was with a star studded Lakers team full of bloated egos and we all knew what happened.

He has to have control where he coaches and he will have it in Sacramento.

Don't take Kurt from us...

June 6, 2009  09:51 AM ET

dead man walking............

I gotta believe kurt would wait at least until the summer
when Phil - if he wins- might walk away.....and he might
fall into the Laker job-

I mean taking over the kings ? there is probably LESS
chance of success there than for whoever takes over the twolves

I hear him that he wants to be a head coach- but
DESPERATION at ths point will only lead to FAILURE -not only
short term, but long term as well- since he ma ynot get another
job if he only gets 20 (or less) wins in a couple years there

no, they are not. Find another forum.

Kings cannot win for a year at least. Any coach needs two years with that roster and the Maloofs have to get some free agents when Kenny Thomas' contract is off the book.

Excellent point. Rambis is a good choice for the Kings but the Kings would be awful for Rambis.

It would be very strange to see Rambis on the sidelines with another team, but if Phil retires I'm not so sure he would be the choice for head coach. I would think Byron Scott's name would be at the top of the list. I think he said, during an interview, that the Lakers' job would be his dream job.

Stay in LA Kurt, unless you think Mitch would pick Kareem to be the New Head Coach when Phil leaves

Byron Scott is more probable.

rambis has been a head coach before but hey who wouldnt grab an opportunity when it presents itself

Go for it Kurt!

June 7, 2009  02:46 AM ET

Byron scott will coach the Lakers when phil steps down

NewYork Yankees!?!? Why are you here? Stick with what you know or else you sound like an idiot. New York hasnt seen good basketball in years. Like the dude said BEAT IT!

Rambis will want to build a team himself and I think he wants coaching experience and growth as a coach away from the Laker organization but I think its all to prepare to come back 1 day when needed. Phil I think will be around 2 years after this year if we win the title.

Once a Laker Always a Laker. Lakers for life always come back. Fisher is a Laker now. Horry will always be loved but he has rings with multiple teams so we cant claim him. Rick Fox is back. Norm Nixon is back. Kareem is on the bench. Kupchak is GM. Magic is part owner. Coop is coaching minor leagues in staples so close enough. Jerry West will always be a Laker. Mychal Thompsen is a broadcaster. B Shaw is on the staff. Byron Scott will be back 1 day but not as a head coach I hope. That 120 - 58 beatdown is a big red flag. Even that coat tail rider AC Green came back at the end. And lets not forget the beloved Sven Nater. Scratch the last 1. These are all legends that contributed to Laker championships and will always be Lakers and I am sure there are more I am not aware of that are connected to the organization. I dont think there is an organization with more former players integrated into it after their careers end. Oh yeah and Shaq.....pssst, please. We remember the championships he brought here but we also remember the potential titles he cost us because of his vindictive ego. He burned the bridge. Shaq aint welcome here, he is banned.

Im fine with it.... Lakers were the best team in the 80's,were irrelevant in the 90's,and were the second best team this past decade and probably now will win the whole thing this year...so good for Kobe,Phil and the Lakers they are now at 500. in the finals since Shaq left....
