Kings reject Fratello's overtures

Nothing against Kings coaching candidates Kurt Rambis, Paul Westphal and Tom Thibodeau, but Mike Fratello continues to reach out to team officials, and can't even get an interview? I understand Geoff Petrie's desire to hire someone whose personality meshes with his own introverted nature, but this is ridiculous. In terms of credentials and accomplishments - not to mention , it's not even close. At the very least, Joe and Gavin Maloof should insist that Fratello be granted an interview. Then, talk personalities, styles and contract.

He creates UN-exciting basketball wherever he goes and that doesn't go well with the Kings Las Vegas businessmen owners.

Plus he alienates his players. He has proven that he knows the game. He can translate that as a commentator relatively well but overall he blows as a head coach.

"At the very least, Joe and Gavin Maloof should insist that Fratello be granted an interview"

why?
I mean the guys is like 432 years old,
AT BEST they will win 30 games....and not even come CLOSE to
the playoffs....
this team needs a young nobody to coach them- until they can
make several roster moves to turn things around....THEN
they can hire a real coach when they are ready to compete

Fratello for this team> as US said above > would be like pouring
salty aclohol onto a gunshot wound to the belly

June 6, 2009  10:43 AM ET

I agree with all the above comments. He could probably be a great assistant, but better he stay as a commentator.

People can rip on Fratello all they want but facts are he is a winner.

667-548 as an NBA coach.

Including 95-93 with the Grizz. And that isnt easy to do. He also took them to the playoffs.

But he does need to quit with the hairpiece. Its horrid!!!!

Fratello turned around the Grizzlies. He is a great teacher and that is what the Kings need.

huh ? he didn't turn the griz around-
Hubie Brown was the coach- the czar came in AFTER the fact-
and he was 6 & 24 his last year there- before he was fired

- that being said he IS a good coach-
but the kings cannot compete with that roster- no matter WHO
the coach is

June 6, 2009  11:49 AM ET

Fratello is better off. No coach is any better than his roster. This team cannot compete. In a year or 2 whoever they hire will be fired, and we'll do this again. The Maloofs should be forced to sell this team.

He's good with the X's and O's but I question his ability to relate to the players.

Hire Westphal.

Actually, Hubie Brown did. Fratello just took over when burnout reached the elder coach.

they're gonna win 30 games or less no matter who the coach is! I would at least take someone who knows basketball! The Maloofs' will take someone outside the box and they will still suck! If I were Fratello, I wouldn't want the job anyways!!

No one can turn around the Kings no one...and Fratello is a good coach not great and has a plastic surgery addiction but besides that it would be a adequate hire....he will maybe give u 5-10 more wins and u still wont make the playoffs so what is with all the lengthy interview process?
