Jordan: Why LeBron won't go to Knicks

08:21 AM ET 06.13 | Michael Jordan, the ultimate Knick killer, threw a wrinkle in the die-hards' wishful thinking Friday afternoon, essentially saying don't hold your breath - or think LeBron James can make the Knicks instant contenders. "He's made his mark in Cleveland. I know New York fans would love to have him, but you need a lot more components than just one player," Jordan said after playing in a celebrity golf tournament at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, L.I., leading up to next week's U.S. Open there. "He's done a heck of a job in Cleveland and they deserve to have him there. He's from that area. "In terms of the game itself, small markets can benefit from it a lot more than the big markets can. That's not a discredit to New York at all."

Sure not what the NY Fans want to hear. If Cleveland wants to keep him they better bring in a FA or 2 this offseason to help get this team back in the Finals, or who knows what King James will want to do. MJ is right though, who would have wanted to buy a Cav's jersey (outside of Cleveland fans) before James was drafted?

He has made his mark as the overhyped no ring James.
Those puppet commercials kill me!
kid puppet: "Lebron why you down man, Lebron why u aint in the finals, Lebron why do they call it finals anyway, Lebron dont be down man Jordan waited 7 years to get his 1st ring Charles Barkley aint even gatta ring, Lebron Lebron Lebron"

Lebron & Barley should do a t mobile commercial while there at it just one.

No ring James: "Yo Chuck"
Chuck: "No ring James was up"
No ring James: "Uh you aint gatta ring either"
Chuck: "True but nobody called me the king of a city the so called chosen one"
No ring James: "Chuck take it back"
Chuck: "Until you get a ring your not in my 5"
No ring James: "I wont be shaking your hand then"
Chuck: "Who cares get a ring"
(chuck hangs up)
No ring James: "Chuck u kiddin right"
No ring James: "Answer me Chuck before I school u in a 1 on 1"

Who's in your fave 5 not Lebron cause he has no ring!

June 13, 2009  09:16 AM ET

The reason the Cavaliers didnt win is that their roster is the biggest bunch of misfits in the NBA. The only reason they landed Ben Wallace, Mo Williams, and Wally is that no one else wanted them. The only players that other teams want are the players that the Cavs drafted. They need to send Wally packing and sign Marion so they can match up with the Magic. A bigger guard also wouldn't hurt because Delonte, Mo, and Boobie are on the small side.

Patrick Ewing, Karl Malone, and John Stockton don't have rings either, so what's your point? Fact of the matter is that LeBron James is one of the most dominating players in the NBA right now. He has brought a franchise that was close to moving to St Louis prior to the 2002 season into a constant playoff contender. He has taken an entire city on his back........how many other players have done that?

LeBron is still young, which means his game will only improve.

LOL @ #2 that lil kid is sooo annoying but he's clownin Lebron...i really wish Nike would stop all that Lebron and Kobe commercials because the last few i seen, look like there running out of ideas

Wow- I totally gave up on LBJ to NYC.....

But now that MJ is saying he won''t come........
HE'S COMING to NYC baby !!!!!!!!!
- cause we all know what a crack GM MJ is-

June 13, 2009  09:48 AM ET

Knicks fans, I hope you understand(and I know some of u do, jgb) that although he may come in 2010, your hope for the future is in the flexability your current GM has created for you. Don't get to attached to any one or two guys. Historically speaking its very hard to pull a max deal guy away, remember you cant fall back on the Yankee plan of just overpaying. Forget about 2 max deal guys, for starters it not really feasible and i dont think its ever been done, that is 2 in the same year. You have flexability and if your GM continues his work you should see good basketball in NY soon, even without LBJ.

June 13, 2009  09:54 AM ET

Lebron isn't going to the Knicks. I wish this rumor would die already. Lebron isn't Letrell Sprewell or Vince Carter, he wants to win first. The man is making cash hand over fist. The thing that is keeping up at night if anything, is going this long without a championship.

And the dee of Dees, you can rest assure that D-Wade will leave Miami before the Heat win a ring again so enjoy it. The Cavs got awfully far with next to nothing as far as a starting line up is concerned. They will make the right moves to get the job done.

And furthermore, lets not forget that the Cavs have been title contenders several years in a row. Its only a matter of time before the Cavs and LBJ get the first of many rings. And that will be at the expense of the Carmelo's, D. Howards, D-Wades, and Kobe's of the League. King James is not going anywhere.

a little too harsh on the greatest player ever even if he is not a good GM or owner he deserves a lot more respect bro....

June 13, 2009  09:59 AM ET

and another thing LBJ is not going to NY unless they sign someone like Bosh,Wade etc...why would you go from a contender and top team in your conference to a conference cellar dweller like the Knicks...

Exactly! It doesn't even make sense.

Give it a break, he has not had that much years in the league yet to be given that title. How many years before Jordon won his first title. I understand the resentment but be rational.

My feeling is that LBJ will leave Cleveland. He may be saying all the right things about loving Cleveland and the fans, but it's probably from orders from Dan Gilbert and management. I've felt this way even before the Cavs lost in the East Finals. He's a superstar, a "bright lights, big city" type of guy. This guy is young and I'm sure he wants to have fun after games in a big metropolis. Now, I'm NOT a Knicks fan even though I'm from NY, but he's gonna wind up in either NY (he's thrown enough hints around by wearing "NY" baseball caps), the Nets, Chicago, Miami, L.A. (either team), Dallas, or Boston, Atlanta, DC, or Houston, basically any of big cities. No matter how bad some of these teams are, he's gonna say something like, "I'm looking for a new challenge". What these teams can or can't offer in terms of salary cap is going to be an issue, but not the biggest issue. He'll spin it this way: "Money's not everything...I'm here to take this team to the next level", and in a big city, he can easily make up the difference in endorsements.

You fail to mention that a Chinese group just purchased a decent percentage of the Cavaliers. This opens LBJ up the China market that is madly in love with the NBA. If you honestly think LeBron would ever...EVER pass up the ungodly amount of $$$$ he is about to make in the China market, you are beyond insane. Once that Chinese group made this deal....it all but locked LBJ in Cleveland.

Dude; how old are you? About 16 would be my guess--which means you're the perfect target for the ESPN Media Machine. A ring is simply an indication of the people you were surrounded with. Certainly, a championship is the ultimate goal, but it is not an indication of greatness. Some of the greatest to ever play the game, left without a championship. Francisco Elson has a ring, and George Gervin doesn't. Which player would you want on your team? To even attempt to make the argument you're trying to, is simply an indication of your lack of understanding. I'm really not a big LeBron fan, but anyone can see he'll get his as soon as he's surrounded with the people to get the job done.
