05:29 AM ET 06.16 | Several general managers and agents in the NBA believe that the Portland Trail Blazers -- a rising club like the Magic -- might offer the stiffest competition to sign Hedo Turkoglu. The Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors and Atlanta Hawks also have salary-cap room to put Turkoglu in play.

i could see the pistons making a move for him but he would really help the cavs...

June 16, 2009  06:42 AM ET

Wow. Let's send every free agent to the Cavs so everyone can have their way and "King James" can win a ring.

June 16, 2009  06:45 AM ET

Magic resigns him for 4 year, 40 million dollar contract and takes a lux tax hit.

June 16, 2009  06:50 AM ET

He has size, is relatively quick and can hit the 3. I wonder if the Knicks would have any interest. He might be a good fit in D'Antoni's system.

June 16, 2009  07:01 AM ET

He needs to get better defensively. He needs to develop some kind of inside game so when the jump shot don't fall he has a reliable second option to score with.

With the way he plays he'll fit in any system but unfortunately we're not giving any contracts past 2010 for now.... he is a good player but he's not the type that you sacrifice the future for.

I dont think the Magic will resign him. Someone will offer more than the Magic are willing to pay. Without Hedo the Magic have 4 players signed to large contracts with 3 or more years left. Signing Hedo for 11-14mil, which is probably what he will be offered, will put them at the cap for the next 3 years with just those 5 players(Howard, Nelson, Hedo, Pietrus, Lewis) This would almost guarantee they will be a luxury tax team for the next 3yrs and remove all their flexability also. Would be surprised, based on what they've said so far, if their ownership will do that. We've seen teams do this in the past and it almost always comes back to bite them.

that's when he is on his game - sometimes he disappears just check his PER stat and true shooting % .................it's terrible.

Very versatile with good passing instincts but Ariza did put him in his place in game 5. Also he has a tendency to use his forearm to create space so he can step back jumper which is like blatant. He does have height to being 6'10 so when he is on his game his shooting can be a big addition.

What happens Lostwill when the Knicks hold out for the big cheese and they stay with their teams???

That's a consideration. You cannot assume one the mega-stars will come to NY simply because it is NY...and if they don't come, you still have a team to run. I would rather assume they are not coming and have a plan in place for that eventuality. Leave signing room where you can, but don't put 12 scrubs on the floor next year hoping to afford Lebron.

The Cavs? He's not a bruiser in the post...

June 16, 2009  07:59 AM ET

Hedo has good mid and deep range, quick,is clutch and can drive to the rim strong plus he is smart and not a fossil so I would love him back with the Spurs but unless he accepts less cash in wont happen...the only FA i would love more than him on the Spurs is Artest but he wants to get paid as well.....

June 16, 2009  08:20 AM ET

I could see a sign-and-trade with Portland happening...possibly Rafer Alston and Hedo Turkoglu for Travis Outlaw, Steve Blake, Sergio Rodriguez, and Martell Webster....something like that.

I like your thought but I don't know if this lineup works for Portland. Portland already has the playmaker like Hedo in BRoy. Rafer is inconsistent. If Rafer starts hitting his outside shot in a more consistent basis then it will work. There's too much playground still in SkipToMyLou.

Well, here I am trying to get rid of Luol Deng again. How about a sign and trade with the Bulls, Deng for Turkolu. It will fit financially and the Magic will get a model citizen and a player with tons of potential to fill any empty spot on the injured reserve!

You don't build a team just to make the playoffs... the Knicks would have made the playoffs if they kept Zach Randolph and Crawford... basketball is love in NYC...to be or not to be...

he's 30+......lol
he ain't learning defense or new moves-

He's going to get offers from just about EVERYONE-
deservedly so

if the $$ is going to be roughly the same-
-why would the magic give up their chemistry and their offense
for a stiff like Deng- who has an AWFUL contract?
