T-Wolves dealing Love to Grizzlies?

07:35 AM ET 06.18 | It's clear that new Timberwolves basketball president David Kahn is looking to move up in the June 25 NBA draft. One rumor that makes sense for the Wolves, who have the No. 6 overall pick and have glaring needs at center and point guard, is trading forward Kevin Love to the Memphis Grizzlies for their No. 2 overall pick. Memphis, however, probably wouldn't make the deal. But if it did, the Wolves could take UConn's 7-2 Hasheem Thabeet. And with their No. 6 pick, they could take 6-3 guard Stephen Curry of Davidson.

No way in hell will Memphis give up the number 2 for Kevin Love...he's not tht good.... they can have David Lee for that.

just making up the stories as they go along huh. I have one... Billups, and Amare going to Cleveland in a 3 team trade. Wow this is easy to report stuff.

lol...according to si reporters the twolves are trying to get rid of their whole team. what's the point of moving up to the #2 spot when this draft has a bunch of pgs that aren't very impressive at all?

June 18, 2009  08:09 AM ET

This trade is highly unlikely ...

While MEM needs to have a frontcourt, I doubt they make this move since they can afford to buy a frontcourt player on FA. On the other hand, if MIN is swapping Al for Amare, while Love has no post moves, he cleans the boards so I doubt they move him too.

do people come up with this logic on purpose just so they can laugh at the reaction it gets?

June 18, 2009  08:29 AM ET

That would not be a bad trade for Memphis. They are getting somebody who has proven himself for one year in the NBA and trading a draft pick that is unknown.

agree-
he was taken 5th last year- had a nice year- but to give up
the 2nd pick 1 year later for him ???
- if he wasn't on an AWFUL team- his #'s would look alot worse

June 18, 2009  08:55 AM ET

why want the #2 pick? The #1 pick is the one you want.

June 18, 2009  09:41 AM ET

Let's see...Kahn has been behind the wheel for about a week--and already we hear he wants to trade his two best players. Brilliant.

June 18, 2009  10:04 AM ET

Love is clearly better than the #2 pick in this years draft. Maybe they can trade Love for Mayo... lol

June 18, 2009  10:26 AM ET

What wasn't included was Minnesota also taking back a bad contract from Memphis...so it would be more like Love for #2 and Jaric's 8mil cancer of a contract

June 18, 2009  10:30 AM ET

Love for the 2nd pick of the draft......lol... Yeeeaaah right!! that would be stupid, I guess this is why its called truth and Rumors!! Memphis already has Gasol that looks more promising then Love... This is a good Rumor, if Memphis does that welcome to the next era of bad decisions!!

Gasol at C / Love at PF only start at C when AL Jefferson went down Conley, Mayo, Gay, Love, Gasol : very young starting 5

That's what I've been saying this whole year...if they can just get a good PF to put alongside those other 4 players, they can be a really good team in the near future.

Yeah, Kevin Love is so bad that he averaged 16 points and 13 rebounds per 36 minutes, had the best offensive rebounding percentage in the game and grabbed the 3rd most total offensive rebounds and was 9th in rebounds/game despite only playing an average of 25 minutes/game. He's 5 years younger than David Lee and puts up similar if not slightly better numbers (Lee per 36 minutes: 14 pts 11.5 rbs). Yes, David Lee has more total defensive rebounds, but he also played 10 minutes more per game, or 810 more minutes this season. At Love's pace of 25 minutes a game that is equivalent to playing over 32 more games a season. The differential in total defensive rebounds between the two is 235. However with the pace at which Love rebounds, if he had played those extra 810 minutes he would have amassed 292 more rebounds and ended up with 57 more defensive rebounds than Lee.

And whoever (#4) said that Kevin Love doesn't have any post moves just doesn't know what they're talking about. Everything he gets is on moves and fundamentals. I've watched the kid since he was in high school. He's not an explosive athlete or particularly tall: that's always been the main criticism of him, not that he isn't one of the most fundamentally sound big men to come out of the draft in a long time. He turns 21 in September and only has to get older, stronger and better at what he does vis-a-vis NBA competition rather than "learn" something new.

if they need PG and C, why give up love and pick for pick?

The Wolves need a Center so they could move Al Jefferson to PF or a PG so that Foye could be that SG that he is.
