Buyers interested in keeping the Coyotes in Glendale will get first dibs at an Aug. 5 auction. Should no offer satisfy the court, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Redfield T. Baum said Monday that a second auction open to bidders who want to relocate the team would be Sept. 10. An attorney for Chicago White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf and Valley attorney John Kaites told the court they would submit a bid to keep the team in place. Kaites, who formed Glendale Hockey, LLC, with Reinsdorf, said an application would be submitted on Friday and a formal bid would follow by July 24, the deadline established for bids in the first auction.

Phoenix should not have a hockey team.Period.

Exactly, Sark. This has drawn itself out into some sort of awful soap opera. At this point, I don't care if Balsillie wins and brings the team to Canada anymore, I just want someone to buy the frigging team, wait the season or two the league will make them to prove a point, then move this team and leave the desert to the sports that don't play on ice

Why is it taking Reinsdorf so long to put in a bid for the Coyotes???? Didn't he announce his intentions to place a bid for the team a month ago?? Something doesn't smell right to me.

This is the part where the NHL clams up and makes everything a secret. Gary is shooting one in his pants dreaming of having Reinsdorf's name associated with the league. Thye will make motions to keep the process under wraps and shut out Basille.

I guess he wants to lose a couple hundred million.

June 23, 2009  09:30 AM ET

Just move them to Vegas. It's what the NHL needs, publicity and a splash in the US. First major pro sports team to play in sin city.

Funny he did not say how long they would say in Glensdale. Think he will want to move them in the future? Think Vegas, Chicago, or the GTA is calling?

Hey Reinsdorf, your Vegas is showing.

Chicago?????? The Blackhawks almost moved a couple years ago, I don't think they are going to put a 2nd team in Chicago.

i know ten ahl teams that could sell more seats than phx

It won't matter that he is making a bid to buy the team and keep them in Phoenix if his offer is anywhere near the $140M that has been reported. Honestly I doubt he offeres even that much but assuming that is the offer, I don't see how all the creditors get paid. It would be tough for the judge to award the team to a bid that is $72.5M less than what Balsillie is willing to pay.

I smell something really bad as well BGM. Oh wait, I'm in Toronto and we have a garbage strike on!
Never mind.

Do none of you understand that you have to have a winning franchise for it to be successful (unless you live in toronto)? Pittsburgh, Calgary, Buffalo, and even the NYI right now have all been in danger of losing their teams.......... BECAUSE THEY SUCKED. Phoenix's problems lie in management and the ON-ICE product, it has nothing to do with the location........ GROW UP

how do you explain the fact that Tampa Bay won the cup and virtually nobody showed up or even new about it down there?
And with your words of "nothing to do with location"............from what I understand, the Yotes arena is about an hours drive from the nearest major city. Never mind that its in Arizona!
They will just not work down there. Deal with it.
