Cavs moving up for Young?

Don't be surprised if the Cavaliers come away with a rotation player in Thursday's NBA draft. It probably won't happen if they stay at their current picks -- 30th and 46th -- but with teams hurting for money and the Cavs flush with cash from a strong playoff run and LeBron-mania, it puts them in superb position to add some money to that 30th pick and move up. It's a draft with a glut of point guards, and the Cavs could use one. There also are some intriguing wing players. Which brings us to Sam Young, the 6-6, 210-pound small forward from Pittsburgh.

i dont like it and this is my first first

I dont see where he fits into what Cleveland does-he may be a good piece though.

June 23, 2009  06:58 AM ET

I like this idea better than getting a 6ft PG. If they can come away from this draft with a solid rotation player its a success.

This Ferry dude is clearly confused - somebody go help him. One minute he's going for a point guard, next he's trading up for a shooting guard and oh he's trading for Shaq, Zach Randolph, Rasheed Wallace... make up your mind already... Lebron clock is ticking!

June 23, 2009  09:04 AM ET

I like Sam Young but not sure what he could be for the Cavs other than another role player. LeBron needs the help. Use that number 30 pick as part of a trade package for another established talent.

yeah- Sam is going to be a decent pro- maybe like
Mo Pete.....but he certainly shouldn't be their focus

WAIT ! I see the reason the CAVS want him : He wears #23 : And if LeBron wears #23 anybody else who wears #23 must be a Great as King James : It Must be GM Ferry train wreck way of thinking

I gotta ask nova-
what's the deal with the colons at the start of your sentences ?

June 23, 2009  10:02 AM ET

Agreed - Young might turn out to be a decent pro, but if he is your target/focus you are in trouble.

oh im sorry, have you heard Ferry mention a single player's name yet? No you havent because he hasnt said anything, its all rumors right now. And why does he have to make a move soon? He may make a move before the draft, but if not he has several months

Well time is not on his side. The Cavs are sellers in this market but they are acting like buyers. They first have to find takers for the old usesless players that were abused by Howard in order to add quality players... so he better get to work!

June 23, 2009  11:28 AM ET

Sam young is NBA ready as far as physicalilty and maturity. The cavs do need bigger guards that they can get late in the draft, so this may work out. Cavs need bigger backcourt guards that can score and defend. Mo Williams can score but too little to defend biggers guards in the league. But he will not get replace b/c he is option #2. The one person i see getting replace is Delonte West b/c he is more of a off the bench/ role player anyways. So Sam young may work.

He's not gonna help them next year! Lebron is a memory soon in Cleveland. Get ready!

Cleveland Cavs sucks! The team over achieved during the regular season and under achieved during the post season. I don't believe Mike Brown deserved the Coach of the Year award nor did Lebron deserved the MVP award. Phil Jackson and Kobe are much more deserving judging from the team success. The only way the Cavs won more games was because of the weaker schedule playing in the east. The Lakers are the best team in basketball!

I agree with you, They are in a perfect position to package this with a trade and get and established big or mid. I still think they need to explore A. Jamison, The Wiz really need a lot of pieces still and this would help them grab more parts they need.
That being said, Sam is a solid player and he played pretty well against good teams. He averaged over 17 a game and over 6 rebounds and also dropped 30+ on UConn in early March. He has good size and might be a good fit?

I've been saying that all year. Cavs were over rated this year. And the West is far better than the East in the NBA. It really didin't matter who the Lakers played fromt he East. They were going to win. The only East team that I thought couyld hang with LA was Boston and when KG went down there was no question of a championship. You Put Denver or Houston in the East and It would probably be Boston, Denver, Houston, Orlando, Cleveland.

Amen! Problem is, Ferry seems to be getting worse instead of better. He'll wake up when he sees LeBron's turn signal.

Sounds like another Lakers fan salty because Kobe and Phil didn't get more hardware! Here is why you are wrong, Take Kobe off the Lakers and replace him with a decent player and you still have a playoff team with a great coach but if you take Lebron off the Cav's you have a bottom feeding team that has a good coach. Obviously the majority of people liked what mike brown did for them and lebron showed that he is capable of distributing the ball to others and still have one of the best seasons of all time. Give credit where credit is due, The Cav's swept the first two teams (as they should have done) and then ran into a team that was on fire from 3 and couldn't miss last second shots. I give complete respect to Orlando and LA but the numbers don't lie and the Cavs are still a better team with the TRUE MVP.

If I was cleveland.. i would trade my whole team, draft picks, expiring contracts to get amare. The only off limits would be obviously lebron and possibly Mo Williams. Also does anyone think Boozer would go back to cleveland.

Cleveland fans are tough but I watched Boozer play many of times and I would take him back with open arms!!! I think he would never have left if he knew how good LBJ was going to be, I think he thought the Utah had a better chance and he went with it. I think there is a chance but Utah doesn't need what the Cav's are offering.
