Kings like Evans over Rubio

With Thursday's draft drawing near and the Kings' workout schedule having been completed with Ricky Rubio's visit Monday, the deliberating about the team's No. 4 pick continued internally. And while their list of top candidates is believed to include Rubio, Memphis' Tyreke Evans, Syracuse's Jonny Flynn and Davidson's Stephen Curry, it appears Evans is heading the group entering the final days.

I have a feeling Kings will screw up which should leave some interesting names on the board. But Tyreke makes sense cos they already have Udrih at the point. Another Euro point is a dangerous investment as they'll both be using the Kings court to practice for Euro tourneys and Olympics. Ginobli and Yao have shown the league how that goes...

Idk...Rubio is the type of guy Sacramento needs...a floot general. Maybe giving up Beno Udrih for Luke Ridnour or something like that could knock out the problem stated by comment #1 of them having two Euro PGs.

They should ABSOLUTELY trade the pick-
Evans or rubio ain't helping this team

They need ALOT of help- and no one available at this pick is
going to be someone that will turn things around

June 24, 2009  08:52 AM ET

Kings could use the Harden kid or Hill if he were to fall to them.

June 24, 2009  08:56 AM ET

i like evans to sac-town. he might be a bit of a project pg but he has size and athleticism. he should take the starting job from udrih if they do decide to take him

June 24, 2009  08:57 AM ET

Rubio makes more sense with the Kings than Evans does especially considering Rubio is an actual PG. Evans is talented but you got to question if he can be a PG in the NBA.

June 24, 2009  09:02 AM ET

I do too, although I think Rubio will ultimately be solid player.

June 24, 2009  09:08 AM ET

Kings need a big man. But if they believe that evans can be a Derek rose then they have to go with him.

the kings have a decent front court with hawes and thompson....they're just young and need a little more nba experience

It's the Kings we're talking about. Does it really matter?

Good point... who gives a... the league needs to find a way to make sure the best players stay in the big markets...

I don't necessarily agree with that thinking. If that were the case, there would only be about 10 teams in the league. My point was that no point guard is going to make a big difference in a 17-65 team.

Agreed. Point guard is a huge need but it's not like the Kings are going to improve 20 games in the win column for next season. If they get to 30-52 that would be an accomplishment.

June 24, 2009  11:40 AM ET

Evans is a 2 guard in the NBA.

June 24, 2009  11:41 AM ET

Rubio would be the smarter pick if he falls to 4.

June 24, 2009  11:49 AM ET

Tyreke Evans impressed many during his Minny and Sac workouts and is hence getting a second look from a lot of teams. Considering the source though (Sacramento Bee), this may be a smokescreen for who the Kings really want after all, and that is Rubio. Whoever the Kings draft, whether it be Rubio or Evans, this is just a clear sign that Beno would be riding the pine next to Kenny Thomas for the upcoming season.

i would have to disagree with this statement. if this was the case, then only a handful of teams would be competitive. fan base will be diluted and the revenue for the nba will be greatly affected. that would be a death knell to any profitable league.

Pls stop with this rubio crap he is all hype he dosen't even look like he plays ball looks like a soccer player sorry bro. Kings need to pick up Evans or Flynn the crowd wants to be excited one of those two will help big time!

I read that Rubio worked out or met with SacTown officials last week. I think there is interest on both sides. Yes, He would be a good pick at 4 and a major upgrade over Udrih. If their last pick is any indication for this year's pick, they wouldn't botch it, (hopefully).

I had never thought much of Jason Thompson before he played last season, he will be a very good player, in my opinion. I think Rubio will be solid too.

get hedo back. seriously they need to take rubio. hes a baller. give him some time to b the next pistol pete. kings arent goin anywhere soon. they hv all the time, or he could be a trade bait. lot of gms lk rubio. trade him for more draft pks.and please fire peotrie. he is the next mchale. he is on the downside after letting adelman go and trading c webb and bibby plus artest. hard to believe not to long ago they were a western power.
