T-Wolves not done dealing?

The Wizards and Timberwolves have agreed in principle to a trade involving Washington's No. 5 pick in the draft, a league source told SI.com on Tuesday. The Wizards would receive Randy Foye and Mike Miller while the Timberwolves would get the No. 5 pick, Etan Thomas, Darius Songaila and Oleksiy Pecherov. If consummated, the deal would enable new Timberwolves general manager David Kahn to make any number of moves leading up to the draft, whether he decides to keep the picks or package some or all of them to move up to No. 2 in an exchange with Memphis that could bring Ricky Rubio to Minnesota.

Wizards look better good on paper than they did yesterday. The Wizards just need to be healthy and anything is possible in the Eastern Conference - probably not top 4 possible.

Both Foye and Mike Miller are upgrades at the two spot (stevenson).

Arenas, Butler, Jamison, Haywood, Miller, Foye, Blatche, McGee, Young...and more!!! This is a very good squad and I wouldn't be surprised if they were a Top 4 team in the East.

If Im a T-Wolves fan I can see what they're trying to do. This is a draft loaded with guards that you can have under your control for the next 3 years. They now have enough to get the #2 spot and get a impact PG. Front court is in good shape-however if they can pick up Thabeet-Jefferson can slide down to the 4.

Do you think Minnesota could strike a deal for Blake Griffin in a package that includes #5, #6, and Kevin Love?

June 24, 2009  08:28 AM ET

I really hope this quick make over helps the wolves... real dangerous moves but the buzz will put fans in the seats...

June 24, 2009  08:28 AM ET

Wizards are underachievers-so lets see if they can play enough D to be a top 4 team in the East. Celtics-Cavs-Magic-Wizards??? I dont think so...

Clippers need a bonafide 3-Wolves dont have one to offer...

Wow, the Richard Jefferson trade, and now this........

So the T-wolves in the first round alone own the 5, 6, 18, 28. 2 picks in the top ten is crazy, too bad the draft is so weak. In 03' it would have meant Dwayne Wade & Chris Kaman. Having the 5 and 6 pick for the Wolves means 2 of these five players are going to be on their roster next year.

Ricky Rubio
Hasheem Thabeet
Stephen Curry
Tyreke Evans
Johnny Flynn

Foye illustrated some flashes of a great player last year, but was terribly inconsistent, and Mike Miller didn't even want the ball in his hands. Well played Minny, well played.

so true, they will probably sell around 4 thousand season tickets in the next week. That is more "hope" than they have had in the last 5 years.

top 4?

Damn your drinking the purple stuff early today.

I heard about this trade last night-
& I'm STILL trying to decide whether this was a good or bad trade

I guess it was reasonable on both ends-
and will benefit the Wiz in the short term more....
but Minny is DEFINATELY not done dealing-
no way can they have 4-5 rookies on their roster opening night

June 24, 2009  08:50 AM ET

Will Miller and Foye be able to get shots? Gonna be hard with Jamison, Butler and of course one of the biggest (talented) gunners in the league Agent 0

June 24, 2009  08:53 AM ET

The T-Wolves have some needs but they do not need 4 draft picks. It wouldn't shock me if the Wolves deal number 5 and number 18 to the Grizz for the right to the number 2 pick where they take Rubio or Thabeet, and either one would help them out right now.

Anyway, I got to say I like this deal for the Wizards. Miller provides cover for Butler and Jamison and Foye has the potential to be really good. He and Gilbert may have some struggles co-existing right at the start but if those two meld in their roles then the Wiz will surprise next season.

Miller could make Jamison expendable. Not that I would deal Jamison but with all those Cavs rumors...

June 24, 2009  08:58 AM ET

Great deal for Minny...6 & 18 should be enough to get the #2...would mean Rubio & maybe Tyreke...or just stick with what they have & take 2 of Curry/Evans/Flynn and a Johnson/Daye with #18...then swap their 4th 1st rounder to a team like San Antonio who wants a pick late this year for next year's 1st...and the rebuilding continues...

June 24, 2009  09:00 AM ET

The Timberwolves are positioning themselves to to make some noise. Too bad that the primary objective in all this will blow up in their face. Rubio has bust written all over him. This draft has maybe 4 point guards that would be a difference-maker in Minnesota. Rubio is not one of them.

June 24, 2009  09:04 AM ET

Miller will not make Jamison expendable, you've got to be kidding. Jamison is a double-double machine in points and on the boards.

I like the starting lineup, though - Arenas, Foye, Butler, Jamison, Haywood...bring in Mike James, Nick Young, Miller, Blatche, & McGee off the bench and you've got a pretty nice rotation. The Wizards' bench has been pretty bad over the past, so we'll see how this affects them.

I still don't think the Wizards are done in the off-season either - look for them to make a move on another veteran big man.

I'm a Wiz fan, so this is exciting!! Hopefully we can compete again soon...and beat Cleveland!

How about them Spurs, they sure look strong just need a McDyess or a Wallace to strengthen their frontcourt otherwise they are still pretty weak down low after their hall of famer.

June 24, 2009  09:08 AM ET

They could be a top four team next honestly, depending on the health of Arenas and Haywood. Hawks and Heat have done little to inspire thus far.

I bet Miller starts over Foye, and Mike James never sees the floor. I don't know if Flip likes 10-man rotations, but you have Stevenson on the roster too. That would mean Gilbert, Miller, Butler, Jamison, and Haywood starting, and Foye, Young, McGee, Blatche, and McGuire...before Stevenson and James. One of those last 2 will not be with the team.
The fact that they got 2 guards back in this trade means that Stevenson and James weren't getting it done.
